East Cobb Braves Win 17U/2008 WWBA National Championship

The Braves received 6 strong innings from LHP Jake Davies and two Rbi's each from LF Xavier Avery and 1B Chase Davidson in the championship game. Davies' effort was typcial of the Braves pitching in the playoffs, as starters Michael Palazzone, Brett DeVall, Zeke Spruill and Davies combined to pitch 25 of the team's 26 playoff innings, allowing only 3 runs.

Spruill was named the tournament's Most Valuable Pitcher, going 2-0, 0.00 in 11 innings during the tournament, including a complete game win over a very strong All American Prospects team in the semifinals.

Two players shared the Most Valuable Player Award. East Cobb Astros leadoff hitter CF Brennan May hit 5 home runs, including two leading off the first inning, and went 13-32 overall with 10 extra base hits and 12 Rbi's. The 5 home runs is believed to tie a WWBA championship event record held by Eric Campbell of the 2004 Indiana Yankees (now with the Atlanta Braves).

Richmond Braves RHP-3B, Tim Melville, an Aflac All-American from Wentzville, Missouri, earned the Co-MVP for his performance both as a hitter and pitcher. Melville went 16-27 at the plate with 13 Rbi's and also went 1-0, 1.00 in 9 innings on the mound, the win coming in the playoff quarterfinals.
