 Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League Top Prospect List (30)


It was another exciting summer in the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. area as the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League kicked off their 11th season in early June. When the season came to a close in early August it was the Baltimore Redbirds who prevailed to capture another championship, their fourth straight Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League title.

The Baltimore Redbirds shared the regular season crown with the Bethesda Big Train, with both squads leading their respective divisions with a 29-11 record.

But when the two rivals and dominant forces in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League met in the championship series (for the seventh consecutive year), it was the Baltimore Redbirds who came out victorious, with a clean two-game sweep in the best-of-three series. Emerson Gibbs was the winning pitcher in both contests, as the Tulane righty came on in relief in the 15th inning of Game 1, and he provided 5 2/3 quality innings as the starter in Game 2.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS

1. Stuart Fairchild, of, Baltimore (Wake Forest/SO in 2016)
Fairchild, a Seattle native, intrigued Northwest area scouts out of high school and he was selected in the 38th round of the 2014 draft. Nevertheless, the 6-foot, 200-pound outfielder honored his commitment to Wake Forest and made a huge impact in his first year on campus at Winston-Salem, hitting .349/.429/.497 over 52 games. He continued his hot hitting ways this summer for the Redbirds, and league coaches were impressed by his approach, plate discipline, and ability to hit with authority to all fields. Fairchild is a solid overall athlete with average or above-average grades for his secondary tools. He nabbed 12 bases for the Demon Deacons this spring and added 13 more this summer, with coaches praising his instincts and overall feel for the game. He flashes solid average power, and as he continues to grow and develop he should be able to tap into his strength more consistently and add to his home run tally in 2016.
