TOP MATCH UP SUNDAY

The biggest ?€?scouting match up?€? of the Iowa Spring League season thus far is lined up for 1:00 pm Sunday afternoon at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

LHP Tony Butler of Oak Creek HS in Oak Creek, Wisconsin is scheduled to match up with RHP Zach Von Tersch of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Butler, the top prospect high school prospect in Wisconsin, has signed to attend Arkansas. Von Tersch, the top ranked prep player in Iowa, has signed with Georgia Tech.

Both pitcher?€™s have been throwing very well thus far in the spring. Butler was touching 90 while he was still in the middle of basketball season and has been building on that since. Here is his report from the PG Indoor Showcase in February.

Anthony Butler is a 2006 LHP with a 6'7'', 206 lb. frame from Oak Creek WI, who attends Oak Creek HS. Big League profile body. Top level athlete. Excellent downward plane from extended high 3/4's release. Very good extension. Repeats delivery. Fastball up to 90 mph, explodes on hitters. Sharp 75 CB with downer bite. Throws cutter with SL action. Developing change up. Has everything a pro scout is looking for; velo, breaking ball, body, projection. Very good student. Signed with Arkansas.

Von Tersch has been steady in the 87-89 mph range with a sharp breaking mid-70?€™s curveball in his initial Spring League outings, which have been played in typical early upper Midwest weather. While he doesn?€™t have the present velocity of recent past high round Iowa pitching drafts such as Jeremy Hellickson, Zach Hammes and Joel Hanrahan, Von Tersch is much more projectable and is just beginning to scratch the surface of his ability.

This weekend is forecast to be the nicest of the spring in Iowa, with clear sky?€™s and temperatures in the 60?€™s.
