Zach Hammes is a RHP/IF with a 6-5 205 lb. frame from Iowa City, IA who attends City. Hammes has been better this spring, but he showed the ability to dominate some of the best hitters in the country. He breezed through 2 innings with command of a 90-92 mph fastball that just happened to be the liveliest one in the event. In fact, it is one of the liveliest fastballs in the country and we have seen it up to 94 mph this spring. With sink! He also flashed his good curve at 78 mph and an 80 mph change-up with sink and run. It is some of the hardest stuff to hit in the 2002 draft class. And at 6'7 with a very effortless arm action, he has set himself up to be one of the Nations top picks this June. Top pitcher at the event.

Hammes topped out at 94 with consistant 91-92 live fastballs. Even showed a couple of plus breaking balls in the upper 70s. Early round pick in June.

Watch out for big Hammes. He throws 90 mph with hardly any effort. His breaking ball is devastating at times and his two-seamer looks like a bat breaker. He has grown a couple inches since last year. After the Indoor event we worked with his delivery a little and this Thursday he was up to 93 mph. We've had him ranked high on the national list for over a year now and he continues to get better. He has signed with the U of Iowa, but we think he will go good in the draft.

FB86-89, SL71-72, Nasty Slider. Zach has a chance to go real high in next years draft. He has some mechanical flaws that would be easy for a pro pitching coach to iron out. This kid is for real, he will end up throwing mid 90s with a plus breaking ball and good changeup. He's already been in the 90s and there's more in him. One of, if not the best pitching prospect in the midwest.
