Connor Shouse is the No.3-ranked shortstop from the class of 2024 but can also be found throwing heat from the mound.

The right-handed pitcher from Ball Ground, Georgia, boasts an impressive fastball that consistently sits in the 93-95 mph range, putting him in the top 99.9% of his class.

Coming off a competitive National Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona last week, Shouse and some of his teammates, including Bryce Clavon, Erik Parker, and Samuel Richardson, had a quick turnaround for this year's 17u WWBA.

“I've been doing this for a long time, and that event has always been one of the better ones of the summer, if not the best one,” Astros head coach Kevin Baldwin said about the National Showcase. “For those kids to get to go out there and play in a major league stadium, with the best players in the country, and showcase their talents, it's very special.”

East Cobb and surrounding ballparks welcomed 418 teams on Sunday, July 16, for the start of the 17u WWBA National Championship. After pool play concludes on Thursday, the 71 pool winners and 25 wildcards will advance to the round of 96, vying for the coveted title.

To kick off the tournament on Sunday, the East Cobb Astros got things rolling with an 8-0, run-rule win over the Empire 17u Red team. Shouse went 1-for-1 at the plate, singling down the third base line, scoring teammate Taft Middleton.

In their second pool game yesterday against the Bombers 2024 team, Shouse toed the rubber for the Astros and threw four innings, striking out seven of the Bombers batters. Allowing only one run against, Shouse worked his fastball consistently in the 90-92 mph range, coupled with a slider topping out at 83 mph.

Getting comfortable with his secondary pitches is something Coach Baldwin continues to emphasize that will help Shouse stand out at the next level.

“Developing his secondary pitches, which are already great [is important],” Baldwin said. “Getting him more comfortable using them in all counts.”

The future Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket and the Astros faced off against the Elite National Southeast team this morning and are scheduled to take on the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox today at 3 p.m.

“I hope we just keep playing hard and good things will happen,” Baldwin said.
