2021 California Workout Camp Session 4
The California Workout Camp has been approved by both Orange County Great Park and local guidelines. Each field will have a maximum capacity that has been set in accordance with local regulations and Orange County Great Park. Masks will be required at all times by any spectator or athlete outside the field of play. Social distancing will be encouraged at all times throughout the complex.

2021 Top Prospects

Jonah Montes  RHP - 2021 - Upland, CA
Embry-Riddle

Montes ran his fastball up to 86 mph with a athletic delivery and clean arm action. He also showed feel for his secondaries, a true cutter in particular with late darting action in the 79-80 mph range.

Shane Bowen  C - 2021 - Tracy, CA
South Mountain CC

Bowen showcased a stronger arm behind the plate with plenty of carry on his accurate throws recording a 2.00 second pop time. At the plate he displayed good rhythm to the swing with some jump off the barrel.


2022 Top Prospects

Charlie Mannon  1B - 2022 - Newport Beach, CA
UC Santa Barbara

Mannon is a physical left-handed hitting first base prospect who moves around the bag well, but shows best on the offensive end where he works short to the ball with great strength at impact as he produces long lofted contact to the pull side when squared.

Ryder Brooks  LHP - 2022 - Fountain Valley, CA
UC Irvine

Brooks works under control in the outfield with easy actions to and through the ball and a clean release, while also showing great projection on the offensive end with great looseness and bat speed while firing his lower half on time and getting the barrel out consistently.

Ryan Roche  3B - 2022 - Palos Verdes Estates, CA

Roche showed some things to like with a long and strong swing that generated well-struck contact to the middle of the field, but was especially impressive on the mound where he worked 85-88 mph with good life to his fastball, turned over a quality changeup and showed a sharp vertical breaking ball with swing and miss components.

Kansas

Birdsall is a long and projectable athlete who has an active approach to the ball in the infield with a strong glove and a sound swing with good bat speed and length through the zone while showing a present ability to impact the ball well.

Britton Beeson  3B - 2022 - Villa Park, CA

Beeson was smooth on the dirt during defensive drills working under the ball well with soft hands and shows good projection components on the offensive end with a loose and athletic swing and a good feel for the barrel that generates consistent line drive contact to the middle of the field.

Gavin Rossi  OF - 2022 - Orange, CA

Rossi showed his athleticism with a 6.73 section sixty. At the plate the ball comes off the barrel well as he is able to use his strength in is hands to drive the ball from middle to pull.

Ethan Hale  RHP - 2022 - Orange, CA

Hale is a long and projectable right-hander who works very balanced to release with good arm speed across all three of his pitches. His fastball, that has been into the mid-80s, has good life to it while the changeup shows great late fade to the arm side and the curveball is sharp when he turns it over.

Aviles has a projectable three-pitch mix on the mound, but showed well as a position prospect working under control in the outfield with arm strength up to 85 mph and a using really athletic swing to get the barrel head out at a consistent rate and drive the ball into the pull side gap.

Sandoval took one of the most consistent rounds of batting practice at the event as he uses a very simple approach with good bat speed and looseness to find the barrel at a consistent rate and generate line drive contact to both gaps.

Bobby Bangs  RHP - 2023 - Irvine, CA

Bangs is a good athlete who showed great stuff on the mound as he worked up to 87 mph with the fastball from a quick arm while showing a hammer-like 12-to-6 curveball and a hard-fading changeup that both have the components to garner swing-and-miss.

Dylan Zdunek  C - 2023 - San Gabriel, CA
Princeton

Zdunek showed well across the entirety of the workout, displaying quick twitch catch-and-throw skills behind the plate, a quick and fundamentally sound swing with good impact strength and a mid-80s fastball on the mound with feel for a pair of secondary offerings.

Joshua Torres  SS - 2023 - Highland, CA
UC Riverside

Torres showed athleticism in multiple facets of his game. On the infield he works smoothly through the ball with good feel for the glove actions. At the plate his hands play well with good barrel accuracy driving the ball hard on a line to the middle of the field.

Zachery Gresham  OF - 2023 - Los Angeles, CA

Gresham displayed a smooth left-handed stroke with polished mechanics. He uses his lower half well with good timing to the swing and the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with some raw power.

Sanders brings a super projectable frame to the mound with plenty of length left to fill moving forward; he ran his fastball up to 83 mph and showed feel for a changeup with fading actions.

Lavin is athletic behind the dish with easy actions that project well, but the offensive upside stands out even more as he has a long and lofted swing that allows him to get the ball in the air already to the pull side with ease.

Heffler is a young and projectable prospect who works in a good pace in the infield with good foot and glove work while also showing good pieces to build on from the offensive as he generates great bat speed and explosiveness through impact.
