Orange v. Navy Highlights

2/26/2023

Payne Hotman (2027 C, Tyler, TX) turned on one for a solid pull side barrel. It was an easy single through the left side. Good strength at impact and the ball jumps a bit at contact. He also hopped on the bump and topped out at 79 in his appearance.

Easton Cantrell (2027 C, Santa Fe, TX) was comfortable on the mound sitting in the low-70s from an easy release. He flashed a solid breaking ball in the process and dropped it in for strikes. Good uptempo delivery with more in store as he matures.

Ryker Mahnke (2027 OF, Lawrence, KS) was awfully impressive with the stick. Laced a tripe to the pull side en route to a 3-hit game. Ease to the path from the left side. Really good batting practice showing up in game.

Brayden Tarver (2027 2B, Texas City, TX) drilled a triple the other way. Stayed on a well-placed pitch and took it to the opposite field. Good swing decisions over two days.

Isaiah Gutierrez (2027 C, Pasadena, TX) showed a potent two-pitch mix on the hill. Showed a high-spin breaking ball with upwards of 2300 RPMs, tight 12-6 shape. Good life to the fastball, consistent in the mid-70s. Lots to like on the hill.

Carter Laubach (2028 C, Lawrence, KS) showed out on both sides and filled the zone at will. Firm fastball, good life up to high-70s. Can break off a good curveball at this age that really stood out, tight and good depth let's the action take place. Really solid two-way presence.

6-White vs. 1-Columbia Blue Game Highlights

2/26/2023

Rylan Jackson (’27, Crosby, TX) who was mentioned in yesterday’s scout blog for hitting, was on the mound today for Team Columbia Blue. The RHP was able to run his FB up to 82 mph and really liked working inside to RHH’s. He also displayed a breaking ball that was in the mid 60s. Jackson breezed his way through 3 innings, allowed 0 hits while striking out 6.

Cane Paschal (’27, Beaumont, TX) is a solid player for Team Columbia Blue. Paschal has a quite approach at the plate and used his lower half well. He was able to collect a 2B during day 2 action. Level swing plane with contact out front.

Xavier Garcia (’27, The Woodlands, TX) made a great diving playing in LCF to save 2 runs from crossing the plate. He also showed to have some arm speed and strength for his age. Garcia would get on the mound and worked 2 innings while striking out 6. The Southpaw worked 75-78 mph with the FB and 67 with his breaker.

Adolario Aguilar (’27, Kingsville, TX) had two hits on the day for Team White. He showed a solid, middle of the field approach while also showing some plate discipline. The swing is fairly quick and allowed the ball to travel deep.

Jacob Anderson (’27, Frisco, TX) is a RHP that was on the mound for Team Columbia Blue. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound righthander went 2 innings on the mound. He allowed 1 hit while fanning 4 along the way. The FB was up to 75 mph with the CB in the mid 60’s.

2-Gold vs. 3-Green Game Highlights

2/26/2023

Dominic Naylor (2027 SS, Cedar Park, TX) got jammed on a pitch inside but still showed some strength as he muscled it out to center for a base hit. He turned on a ball for a double over the left fielder’s head in his 3rd ab. Naylor also came in for 2 innings and absolutely shoved, sitting in the low 80s while topping out at 84. He mixed in a curve with sharp break and late life. He struck out 6 batters in his outing. There is a lot to project on here with there being plenty of room and time to add strength and grow.

Cason Willing (2028 C, Berryville, AR) was able to get to a ball up and away in the zone nicely as he went with it and drove it the other way for a double into the right-center gap.

Cameron Gray (2027 OF, Texas City, TX) got up to 74 with his fastball and struck out 2 batters in 2 innings of work. Fastball had some nice life to it and got a ton of late swings. He also flashed a nice-looking breaking ball that kept hitters off balance. He also smoked a base hit through left side driving in one of the only runs of the game.

Brenly Oaks (2027 2B, Buda, TX) was up to 77 on the mound while flashing a pretty nice-looking curve with late bite. Oaks will be a fun follow as he continues to add strength and size to his already projectable build. He struck out 3 batters in 2 quick innings of work.

Noah Courtney (2028 1B, Sulphur, LA) had a nice mult-hit game showing good bat to ball skills.

Preston Gorski (2027 OF, Bellaire, TX) also had a nice multi-hit game showing good ability to make contact and drive the ball. Gorski also showed some stuff to like on the mound coming in for 1 quick inning of work. He forced weak contact against all 3 batters he faced.

3-Green vs. 4-Navy

2/25/2023

Hector Garcia III (2028 C, Rio Grande City, TX) absolutely turned on a ball inside and smoked it down the left field line for a double.

Charlie Nicksic (2027 RHP, Katy, TX) was efficient to say the least in his 3-inning outing. He struck out 4 batters while staying within the zone throwing 66% strikes. He touched 72 with his fastball and sat around 70.

Connor Hayes (2027 LHP, Tyler, TX) goes 3 strong innings with 4 strikeouts while being extremely efficient off the bump. He got ahead on hitters quick and sat around 7 forcing weak contact and awkward swings. He also turned on a ball for a screaming line drive base-hit to right in his second at bat.

Rory Martinez (2027 LHP, Houston, TX) smoked a ball through the 6-hole for an easy base hit. He also showed up on the mound going 3 strong innings with 5 strikeouts. He sat around 70 and worked quick.

Gary Pearce (2027 C, Kingwood, TX) showed good ability to get the barrel to the ball by smoking a ball over the short stop head for a single.

Ethan Spies (2027 OF, League City, TX) made a great play on a line drive in the infield saving it form going to the outfield. Has shown really good instincts out in the field.

Zayne Walker (2027 SS, Fayetteville, AR) has been hitting the ball with authority in this game as he’s collected multiple line drive hits. He has a smooth lefty swing who makes consistent hard contact. Walker also came in to pitch the final inning of the game and got up to 78 blowing fastballs by everyone. Flashed a slider in the upper 60s as well with tight break.

5-Orange vs. 6-White Game Highlights

2/25/2023

Jacob Scheiderer (2027 LHP, Orange, TX) stayed on the ball well and drove it the other way on a line for a base-hit early in the game. Showed ability to let the ball get deep in the zone while trusting his hands. He also pitched a solid 3 innings for the Orange team striking out 6 batters while giving up no hits or walks. Nice frame for his age that can be projectable. He got up to 75 with his fastball while mixing in a curve that he was able to locate well.

Rocky Duran (2027 SS, Uvalde, TX) jumped on a fastball and sent a line drive over the second basemen’s head for a single. Came up again later in the game and collected another hard hit single to right. He collected 3 total hits throughout the game.

Caston Fox (2027 3B, Poteau, OK) showed some good in-game actions out at 3rd making a really nice play with fluid motion and accurate throw. Athletic player with a projectable frame. Ripped a line drive base hit to center in his second at-bat. He also flashed some stuff on the mound ramping his fastball up to 78.

Xavier Garcia (2027 OF, The Woodlands, TX) absolutely turned on a ball up in the zone, drilling it to the right-centerfield gap for an inside-the-park homerun. He has a smooth lefty swing with plenty of juice to add over time. Athletic player with a projectable build.

Easton Cantrell (2027 C, Santa Fe, TX) came up to the plate and got produced loud contact in  3 straight abs collecting 3 hits.

Brett Allison (2027 3B, San Antonio, TX) displayed some solid pitch ability off the bump through his 2 innings of work striking out 2 and forcing a ton of weak contact. His fastball sat in the low 70s topping out at 73. He flashed a slow looping breaking ball as well. There is plenty to project on here.

Lamarques Bussey (2027 3B, Houston, TX) absolutely turned on a ball inside for a double down the left field line.

Whit Vandygriff (2027 RHP, Houston, TX) goes 3 innings with 5 strikeouts while not allowing a single runner. His fastball sat in the low 70s while topping out at 73. Threw a ton of strikes and got ahead in the count consistently showing that pitch ability is there.

1 - Columbia Blue vs 2 - Gold Game Highlights

2/25/2023

Noah Courtney (’28, Sulphur, LA) was able to time up a FB in his 1st at-bat and squared up the ball for a double to LF. The primary 1B/RHP stands at 6-foot, 180-pounds and used his powerful frame to impact the game for Team Gold. In his 2nd plate appearance, Courtney smashed another double the opposite way for 2 RBI.

Tristan Aiello (’27, Katy, TX) is a LHP that stands 5-foot-9, 130-pounds. He was able to locate his FB/CB combo well throughout 3 innings of work for Team Columbia Blue. The FB was up 77 mph with a 12-to-6 CB that was in the low 60’s. Aiello really liked throwing the CB and wasn’t afraid to throw it in a hitters count.

Cason Willing (’28, Berryville, AR) showed off some good pull-side power during his 2nd at-bat for Team Gold. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound primary catcher barreled up a FB to LF that was hammered. Will add more power as he matures.

Griffin Zipter (’29, Houston, TX) is one of the younger prospects here at the 13/14U South Showcase. Zipter is 12.5 years old. He showed a pull-side approach at the plate and had advanced IQ for his age. He was able to collect a single off a FB for Team Columbia Blue.

Rylan Jackson (’27, Crosby, TX) is a stronger sized, younger prospect for Team Columbia Blue. The RHP/3B/SS showed off some good opposite field strength by burning the ball over the right-fielders head for an easy stand up double. There is lift at contact while staying balanced throughout.

Dominic Naylor (’27, Cedar Park, TX) stood out during game one. He made an outside play in the hole, showed off fantastic footwork and a stronger arm. He was able to rob the hitter of a single with quick, lateral actions as well. Currently ranked as the #24th overall player in TX.

Jacob Anderson (’27, Frisco, TX) used a simple and smooth swing to collect two hits on the Team Columbia Blue. The swing path is fairly level and Anderson does a good job of staying back and waiting on his pitch. There is some quickness to the bat as well.

Keldon Kemp (’27, Robstown, TX) did a fantastic job of keeping hitters off balance with his FB/CB combo. The delivery was simple, he stayed online and got downhill. Kemp ran the FB in 70-72 mph range while using a big, bending CB in the low 60s. Kemp pitched 2 innings and struck out 4 along the way.

Batting Practice Highlights

2/25/2023

Cane Paschal (2027 SS, Vidor, TX) has a simple and well timed right handed swing with a nice shift into contact.  He showed some hand speed and strength and made consistent hard pull line drive contact.

Jacob Anderson (2027 OF, Frisco, TX) has good strength for an 8th grader and showed the ability to drive the left center field gap with some carry when he squared it up.  It's a slashing swing with some downhill angle that creates back spin.

Rylan Jackson (2027 RHP, Crosby, TX) has some strength in his 5-9/175 build and takes an aggressive swing with full extension through the ball.  He created lots of pull side jump off the barrel when he connected out front.

Griffin Zipter (2029 C, Houston, TX) is a 12-year old 6th grader who is really playing "up" on the big field but sure looked older during batting practice.  He has a very sound and well timed swing and was squaring the ball up from his first pitch through his last.

Dominic Naylor (2027 SS, Cedar Park, TX) has some strength and maturity in his 5-10/175 build and creates some real bat speed with jump and carry.  He has a really busy load that he may need to tone down as the game speeds up but his BP round today really stood out.

Logan Polczynski (2028 OF, Hot Springs, AR) is another hitter with a big leg raise load but good strength in his swing to go along with plenty of physical projection.

Keldon Kemp (2027 3B, Robstown, TX) has an aggressive swing from a big shoulder turn coiled load and showed nice timing getting the barrel to the ball.  His hands are quick and he gets some jump off the barrel.

Cason Willing (2028 C, Berryville, AR) stands out for his solid 5-11/155 build.  He has a short and direct right handed swing that produced consistent line drive contact to left center field.

Ethan Spies (2027 OF, League City, TX) is another 5-11/155 athlete with a short and well controlled left handed swing.  He pulls the ball with authority and projects plenty of power in the future as he learns to open up his swing.

Brenly Oaks (2027 2B, Buda, TX) has strong hips and uses them well to drive his swing.  He gets nice extension through contact and drove some balls gap to gap during his round.

Braeson Estilette (2028 1B, Carencro, LA) hits from a spread stance with a long and strong swing that has nice bat speed for a 7th grader.  He showed the ability to drive the left center field gap with some carry.

Ryker Mahnke (2027 OF, Lawrence, KS) gets hips coiled well at the plate and uses them to create way more bat speed that one would expect from a 5-8/125 athlete.  He really projects well as a left handed hitter.

Gabriel Turley (2027 OF, Bellaire, TX) has good strength in his 5-9/155 build and generates good left handed bat speed.  He got the ball in the air consistently and worked from the pull side to start to more gap to gap to finish.

Trent Maraviglia (2027 OF, Montgomery, TX) showed some of the best raw bat speed and power of the batting practice and drove some balls deep.  It's a busy swing with lots of timers but he can impact the ball when everything comes together.

Whit Vandygriff (2027 RHP, Houston, TX) has athletic actions in the box and a quick and loose swing that short to the ball with good extension through contact.  He lined balls to the pull side with very consistent barrel contact.

Caston Fox (2027 3B, Poteau, OK) is a switch-hitter who showed very good bat speed from the right side and created some gap to gap carry.  He looks new to hitting left handed but is athletic and young enough to improve.

Xavier Garcia (2027 OF, The Woodlands, TX) has an athletic look to him and athletic actions in the box.  He has fast hands and used them to knock hard line drives when he got his front foot down on time.
