In his second trip to the plate he barreled a fastball for a line drive single over the shortstop’s head, plating a run for Purple.

John Anagnostis (2022 3B, Smyrna, GA) connected for a loud barrel in his final at-bat of the game, squaring up a ball for a deep ground rule double over the left-center field fence.

3-Navy vs. 4-Orange

5/15/2021

Thrasher Steed (2022 RHP, Orange Beach, AL) was very impressive holding 88-91 mph for all three inning and pounding the zone to both sides of the plate. The UAB commit mixed in a sharp slider with in the 78-81 mph range showing good tilt and producing plenty of swing and miss. The changeup showed well as the third offering with fading life in the low 80’s and like the slider has the ability to miss barrel as he does a nice job keeping it down in the zone.

Luke Lowery (2022 OF, Norris, TN) showed good barrel consistency in his round of batting practice and carried that into his first at bat doing a nice job of staying ball up and driving a ball into center field for a single. The strength in his frame shows up well in the swing with some pop from the middle of the field to the pull side.

William Schmidt (2024 RHP, Baton Rouge, LA) has a projectable frame with room to fill out  as he continues to mature. He works with a good pace on the mound and ran his fastball up to 81 mph showing a repeatable delivery that allows him to attack in the zone early in counts. He showed a curveball as his primary off speed with depth when on top of it.

Brendan Conner (2024 3B, Warrior, AL) has a strong build with present strength in the lower half. He does a nice job of getting into his legs as he comes down the mound allowing him to maintain his low 80’s velocity. His lower arm slot pairs well with a slurvy breaking ball in the mid 70’s that he does a nice job landing for strikes consistently.

Howell Polk (2022 RHP, Birmingham, AL) has a lean projectable frame with a quick over the top arm action that helps to create downhill action on his upper 80’s fastball topping out at 88 mph. He showed feel for both of his off-speed pitches, the curveball flashed some two-dimensional break landing on the glove side while the changeup has arm side life with maintained arm speed out of the hand.

Jacob Humbers (2022 MIF, Columbus, MS) works on a good line down the mound with a lean projectable frame. His arm action is clean through the back up to a higher over the top slot. He maintained his velocity in the mid 80’s for two innings topping out at 85 mph while mixing a slider with varying shape and getting consistent success with the pitch producing weak contact and swing and miss.
