After three days of top tier dog fights, the PG 17u World Series moved into the first round of playoffs on day four with the Silver bracket leading things off in the morning, shortly followed by the Gold bracket in the early afternoon.




Premier baseball won their morning game in the silver bracket behind a lights out performance by Texas commit Joshua Stewart (2021, Georgetown, Tex.). He was far more impressive in this start than he was in his brief outing in the South World Series two weekends ago. Stewart comes up to a mid-leg lift that coils and slightly closes off at the top. With an out wide arm bar front side, he then sweeps down the hill smoothly and showcases a ton of quickness to his short arm action that fires from a true three-quarters slot. His arm action does reach down and back slightly, however, it is still a tight circle through the back. His 89-92 mph fastball that touches 93 possesses natural arm side run, especially when locating arm side, and he looks to pound the zone with strikes from the get-go. Stewart spotted up to all four quadrants throughout his outing and he made an emphasis to stay in the lower half of the strike zone. His 79-81 mph slider has a low 11-to-5 shape and flashes some brilliance at times, yet, he does consistently tug the pitch across body, making it tough for him to generate empty swings with it in its current form. Stewart was in control the entire time and never really ran into any trouble against Rawlings Arkansas Prospects finishing a one hit, complete game shutout with 10 K’s and one walk.
