Battle of the Southeast Commencing

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Perfect Game’s fourth consecutive weekend summer tournament event based in Georgia commences on June 10 with the 2021 Battle of the Southeast. Perfect Game’s East Cobb Complex will again be home to this weekend’s festivities, in an event that pits some of the biggest upperclass names against each other in a showdown like no other. 
 
The 2021 Battle of the Southeast will carry 246 teams split between five different age groups from 14u-18u. This weekend will exhibit a swath of players both already committed to college programs and those hoping to impress in front of scouts. 
 
Once again Perfect Game will draw a truly national crowd to Atlanta and its surrounding ballparks. Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida will be well-represented across all age divisions, as will select teams from Ohio, Louisiana, Missouri, and Hawaii. 
 
16u, this event’s largest division, holds 70 registered teams, with some of the highest-ranked being the Georgia Bombers, Georgia Jackets, East Cobb Baseball, East Cobb Colt 45s and 643 Tigers. 
 
Top-ranked players headlining the 16u (2023 class) bracket include East Cobb Baseball’s outfielder John Cooper Williams (ranked 32nd, Georgia Tech commit) and right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer (ranked 42nd, Georgia commit). East Cobb fields nine of the top-10 ranked players in the 16u bracket. 
 
Other prominent names are Georgia Bombers’ third baseman/outfielder Francesco Capocci (ranked 295th, uncommitted), TG D-Backs’ shortstop Sherman Johnson II (ranked 371st, uncommitted) and Georgia Jackets’ outfielder Nicholas Allen (ranked 450th, uncommitted).
 
Another age bracket sure to deliver a highly-competitive level of play is the 17u division, packed with some of our country’s top talents. 
 
The East Cobb Astros 17u team will again carry a majority of the top players in their bracket. Two of the nation’s top-five players reside on the Astros in right-handed pitcher Dylan Lesko (Vanderbilt commit) and shortstop Termarr Johnson (uncommitted), both of whom have performed well in previous Perfect Games this summer.
 
Players looking to challenge the 17u Astros’ championship pursuit are Georgia Bombers 17u’s outfielder Riley Stanford (ranked 18th, Georgia Tech commit) and righty Logan Bogue (ranked 125th, Georgia Tech commit). Lesko and Stanford squared off in a semifinal game in last week’s Southeast Elite Championship tournament, a game that the Bombers won on their path to the tournament championship. 
 
Other significant 17u prospects with a chance to impress are Game on Vipers’ Todd Hudson (ranked 126th, uncommitted) and Smartense Select’s right-handed hurler Colin Linder (ranked 131st, Texas A&M commit.), both considered top college prospects.
 
Some of the top-ranked and uncommitted 18u aged players suiting up this weekend with aims to improve their college stock in their final travel ball opportunities are Academic Patriots’ utility player Michael Conder (top 500), Georgia Bombers Victus’ outfielders Rayondre Mercer (top 500) and Jquann Smith (top 500). 
 
This year’s Battle of the Southeast has all the makings to be one of the most competitive Perfect Game tournaments on the extensive summer calendar, with a well-balanced field as travel ball begins to grip the nation.
 
Pool play for this four-game-guaranteed event begins Thursday and extends through Saturday night. Playoffs and consolation games for all age groups commence Sunday, with the respective championship games taking place on Monday at the East Cobb Complex.
