Ian Velarde is a 2029 C/RHP/1B/OF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Howell, NJ who attends Howell. Larger, lean build with some strength present and more to add. 8.24 runner in the sixty. Primary catcher, sets up in a squared stance and takes a short stride out of the crouch. Medium arm action with some whip to the arm generated through release. Quality transfers with limited ground gained during the process. Maintains his direction well and keeps his throws around the bag. Up to 67 mph with a pop-time of 2.29 sec from behind the dish. Secondary pitcher, simple delivery with a high hand set and high leg lift. Inline arm action that accelerates into a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball was mostly straight, setting up a looser curveball and firm changeup. Right-handed hitter, starts in a narrow stance with a high back elbow and tight hand set-up. Utilizes a simple stride for timing before working into a line drive stroke. Produced solid liners to the middle of the field when timed up during BP. Showed some feel for creating leverage at impact. Posted an exit velocity of 74 mph.
