2016 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase

Andrew Hegland (2017 3B, Davenport, IA) singled twice against the Gold team.  He showed good barrel skills and bat speed at the plate.

Tony Comellas (2018 C, Coralville, IA) one of the younger players in the Top Prospect event, Comellas was good for a three hits on the day and showed no fear for playing against the older talent.  

Dane Randall (2017 OF, North Liberty, IA) had two hits on the day including a double.

Chas Sagedahl (2017 LHP, Prairie Du Chien, WI) singled in both of his games today, both in his first plate appearance.  

Connor McCaffery (2017 OF, Coralville, IA) showed off his great size and athleticism knocking two hits in his first game including a double.  

Ryne Schooley (2018 LHP, Iowa City, IA) pitched three very strong innings in which he struck out seven hitters.

Anthony Alepra (2017 RHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) sat 82-85 mph on the mound mixing in a 70 mph slider and 76 mph changeup. 

Will Christophersen (2018 RHP, Bettendorf, IA) was up to 87 mph on the bump today and showed very projectable stuff to keep developing.

Michael Van Riessen (2017 RHP, Urbandale, IA) sat 81-85 mph in his three innings and struck out 5 batters with his three pitch mix.

John Swanda (2017 SS, Des Moines, IA) continued to show off his arm strength running his fastball up to 89 mph today.

Nic McCay (2018 RHP, Carlisle, IA) created solid arm side run with fastball that ranged in the low to mid 80's, topped at 85 mph. Also flashed a curveball that hand tight rotation with solid depth.

Levi Davidson (2017 OF, Dakota City, NE) collected two hits in the last game of the day. Has a simple, repeatable line drive plane with very good balance through extension.

Andrew Zapka (2017 RHP, Willowbrook, IL) also collected to sharply hit singles in the last game of the day. Flashed good barrel control throughout the zone with a high contact approach.

Brayden Frazier (2018 MIF, Cedar Rapids, IA) had three hits on the day including a double to the left side of the field.  Frazier has great barrel control and keeps everything simple, very tough out at the plate.

Noah Sacco (2017 OF, Omaha, NE) also had three hits on the day with a double and moved very well on the base paths.  

Bryce Simon (2017 OF, Cascade, IA) knocked a couple base hits.  Simon keeps it simple at the plate and is short to the baseball.

Trey Nixon (2017 LHP, Council Bluffs, IA) had two singles on the day and scored twice.  On the mound he struck out 5 hitters and was up to 80 mph.

Brett McCleary (2017 RHP, Iowa City, IA) was up to 83 on the mound today in his two innings of work and topped out at 83 mph. He showed a three pitch mix including an 68 mph curveball and a 75 mph changeup.  He also had three hits at the plate

Bryan Truitt (2017 RHP, Caledonia, IL)had three strong innings of work and was up to 87 mph.  He sat in the 84-87 mph range with his fastball and mixed in a 76 mph slider and 81 mph changeup.

Jackson Bennett (2018 1B, Farley, IA) also had 4 strike outs in his outing today.  He worked three strong innings and was up to 83 mph.

Kiley Brown (2017 2B, Germantown, WI) doubled and scored in his last at bat of the day.  He totaled two hits on the day.

Brandon Anderson (2017 RHP, Omaha, NE) was up to 85 mph on the hill today.  In his three innings of work he struck out 4 batters and was up to 85 mph.  

Izaya Ono-Fullard (2017 3B, North Liberty, IA) singled in his last two at bats.  Ono-Fullard has tons of bat speed and strength that will easily play at the next level.

Kiley Brown (2017 2B, Germantown, WI) and Matt Eckard (2017 MIF, Milford, IA) both had a single in the game for the Gold team.

Ryne Schooley (2018 LHP, Iowa City, IA) and Andrew Hegland (2017 3B, Davenport, IA) both had a single in the game for the Columbia Blue team.

Austin Marchesani (2017 RHP, Cedar Falls, IA) threw from a high 3/4 arm slot with good balance in his delivery. He sat 80-83 mph with his FB.

Tyler Hillman (2017 RHP, Pella, IA) threw from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed on the mound. He sat 83-85 mph with his FB.

Brayden Frazier (2018 MIF, Cedar Rapids, IA) Showed solid barrel throughout the zone with a gap to gap approach. Baseball jumped off the barrel well creating very loud contact. Generates good bat speed with an aggressive lower half shift to contact.

Trey Nixon (2017 LHP, Council Bluffs, IA) Clears the hips easily while launching to contact producing good bat speed through extension. Swing plane has smooth actions while natural lift generating rising line drives throughout batting practice.

John Swanda (2017 SS, Des Moines, IA) The Nebraska commit has a upright, straight stance with very good balance to finish. Flashed very good bat speed with turning barrel to contact producing hard, consistent contact to pull side.

Connor McCaffery (2017 OF, Coralville, IA) Has a mid-field to pull side approach and showed off his raw power in batting practice. Has present bat speed and strength at contact while swinging with intent to drive the baseball with authority. 

Tyler Hillman (2017 3B, Pella, IA) Showed a smooth barrel path through the zone with a naturally lifted plane. Created lower half linear shift into baseball while turning the barrel to contact with authority. Consistently barreled baseball producing hard, loud contact.

Nic McCay (2018 RHP, Carlisle, IA) Controlled the barrel well with a compact, line drive swing plane. Stays behind contact well with the barrel skills to hit to all fields.

Jack McCullough (2017 LHP, Gurnee, IL) Has good balance throughout with a smooth hand path while working to pull side. Consistently centered baseball out front producing solid extension to finish.

Keaton Candor (2017 OF, Merrill, IA) Has a loose swing plane with present bat speed and strength at contact. Creates some coil with front side at load and releases generating solid torque through the zone.

Ethan Hayes (2017 OF, Cedar Falls, IA) Creates good shift into contact with lower half while hands launch on a level, line drive plane. Consistently worked the middle of the field producing loud, rising line drives between the gaps.

Anthony Alepra (2017 RHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) had a double in the game and also line out to SS in the game. He showed quick hands at the plate.

Tyler Hillman (2017 3B, Pella, IA) showed a line drive swing plane at the plate with good bat speed.

Adrian Cotton Jr (2017 RHP, Gretna, NE) threw from a 3/4 arm slot with good extension, he sat 83-86 touched 87 mph with his FB.

Keaton Candor (2017 OF, Merrill, IA) had a pair of single in the game. He showed a confident approach at the plate.

Izaya Ono-Fullard (2017 3B, North Liberty, IA) showed a line drive swing plane at the plate and lined a ball to CF that was 90 off his bat.

Andrew Zapka (2017 RHP, Willowbrook, IL) threw from a 3/4 arm slot and did a good job of hiding the ball. His fastball sat 83-86 touched 87 mph.

Jake Gilbert (2017 1B, Ankeny, IA) threw from a side arm release and showed good run on his FB at 80-83 mph.

Clayton Nettleton (2018 RHP, Davenport, IA) was up to 90 sitting comfortably in the 87-90 range thru 3 innings of work.  Showed feel and command of an 83 MPH change up.  Curveball is developing and shows 11/5 shape.

Jack McCullough (2017 LHP, Gurnee, IL)  has a projectable build with room to fill out and add strength.  Topped at 83 with is fastball sitting in the low 80's comfortably with arm side run down in the zone.

Gregory Bennett (2017 MIF, Peosta, IA) shows power potential and the ability to drive the ball.

Jaden Rolffs (2018 C, Pella, IA) had a double showing a good hand path that stays inside baseball.

Jayden Zurita (2017 SS, Burlington, IA) showed some opposite field pop with a hard line drive to RF.

Allen Vis (2017 OF, Eldridge, IA) had a double in the game, he showed good lift in his swing with good bat speed.

Joel Thompson (2017 C, Council Bluffs, IA) showed bat speed at the plate with a line drive swing plane.

Tyler Steward (2017 RHP, Des Moines, IA) threw from a 3/4 arm slot his fastball sat 81-83 mph with a 12-6 breaking CB at 70 mph.

Connor Schultz (2017 RHP, Cedar Falls, IA) showed good arm speed on the mound and filled up the strike zone. His FB sat 83-86 mph.
