2022 Sunshine East Showcase (05/21/2022 - 05/22/2022)

11-Red vs. 12 Royal Highlights
5/22/2022 2:38:30 AM

(Rain Shortened Game)

Carter Gschwind (2023 RHP, Palm Beach Gardens, FL) has a big and strong 6-2/215 build and a fast arm from a high 3/4's arm slot that creates lots of downhill angle.  He worked 87-89 mph for the most part with his fastball without much effort to get to his velocity.  He needs more consistency on his curveball release but he generated tight spin and bite  on the pitch up up to 74-76 when he wasn't trying to overthrow it.

James Crews (2024 C, Winter Park, FL) showed a much better game approach than BP approach, attacking a fastball up in the zone and driving it deep over the left fielder's head for a triple.

Nicklaus Sakowski (2024 LHP, Naples, FL) is a primary left handed pitcher who worked a couple of innings in the mid-70's with a hard downer slider but his BP and game at-bats showed a higher potential as a left-handed hitter.  He lined a double up the LCF gap in one at bat and squared up a hard ground ball the next at-bat that the shortstop made a nice play on.

Benjamin Segura (2023 RHP, St Cloud, FL) has a loose athletic body and a cross body delivery that produced nice life on an 81-84 mph fastball.  His best pitch, though, was a deceptive 71-74 mph change up that he used often and with feel and confidence to set up hitters.
