Friday Batting Practice Highlights
12/28/2018 12:00:00 AM

Luis Mejia (2021 OF, Miami, FL) has a loose and young 5-8/145 build and creates surprising bat speed with his present frame.  If he can get bigger and stronger there are definitely some nice hitting tools here.

Ethan Wilder (2020 SS, Lake Worth, FL) is a very polished right handed hitting middle infielder who has obviously taken plenty of swings in his young career.  He repeats his timing and mechanics very well and made solid consistent middle of the field line drive contact.

David Novak (2021 C, Zionsville, IN) hits from a narrow and coiled start but comes out of it smoothly and generates plenty of bat speed.  He's a confident hitter who got in a nice power rhythm during his round.

Jonathan Xuereb (2022 SS, Boca Raton, FL) has a nice and projectable 5-11/170 build and has an aggressive right handed swing with plenty of looseness and extension through contact.  He's going to keep improving as he gets stronger.

Burton Hahn (2020 OF, Peachtree City, GA) has very good upper body strength and can get the ball to jump hard to the pull side with some lift to hit.  When he learns to use his lower half more, he can take even another step forward as a hitter.

Christian Rivera (2020 C, Wesley Chapel, FL) is bigger and much stronger than his listed 5-6/140 and has a short and strong swing from a simple load and shift.  He wore out the left field wall during his round with his consistent strong pull contact.

Nicholas Romano (2021 SS, Boca Raton, FL) is an aggressive hitter with a busy load that he keeps well timed.  He has present bat speed and a projectable young build that will get stronger.

Matthew Shaw (2020 SS, Brimfield, MA)  has a loose, extended swing and uses every bit of his 5-10/175 build to generate bat speed and create lift in his swing.

Angel M Torres (2020 1B, Miami, FL) has a mature and very strong 6-3/190 build that gives him plenty of strength driven bat speed.  A bit more loft in his swing plane would give a big boost to his power potential.

Cooper Kadish (2020 OF, Cincinnati, OH) has a projectable 6-2/170 build and a calm and smooth and loose left handed swing that can create some carry to the gaps even without lots of present strength.

Nathan Smith (2021 C, Thomasville, GA) showed jump to both gaps with natural juice in his swing.  The barrel feel flashed during his round of BP with consistently strong contact.

Connor Bradley (2021 OF, Hayesville, NC)looks to lift the baseball with a natural loft to his path. Bradley took a nice round of batting practice with a middle to pull side approach.

Matthew Dutler (2020 OF, Vernon Hills, IL) has a strong lower half that helps generate left handed bat speed and an ideal swing plane to get the ball in the air in drive it, which he did very consistently during his round.

Joey Bush (2020 OF, Highlands Ranch, CO) was one of many outstanding young hitters from Valor Christian HS in Colorado who hit today.  The 6-5/185 right handed hitter has legit present bat speed and power and is very short to the ball for his height.

Braden Wallace (2020 OF, Wimberley, TX) is a 6-1/205 left handed hitter with very good hand quickness and nice overall bat speed.  He drove some balls deep to centerfield with plenty of extra carry.

David Smigelski (2020 C, Canton, GA) has a mature and extra strong 5-10/190 build and was timed up from the first pitch, driving the ball very hard to left and centerfield with virtually every swing.

Ryder Wagenknecht (2021 SS, Peachtree City, GA) has a very athletic 5-10/170 build and creates left handed bat speed with quick hands and a pull oriented lifting swing plane.

Franklin Pinales Jr. (2021 OF, Pembroke Pines, FL) has a high waisted and projectable build at 6-0/180 and a loose and extended swing that reminds one of Alex Rodriguez mechanics and swing path.

Dean Guzman (2022 C, Pembroke Pines, FL) still has a young body at 5-8/135 but has real barrel acceleration and surprising gap to gap carry.  He's an aggressive hitter who will keep getting better with physical maturity.

Jared Jones (2022 C, Marietta, GA) has some serious strength in his 6-4/225 frame, especially for a  freshman, and had as much, if not more, raw power than any hitter we saw today.  There is still plenty of room for improvement in his swing as well.

James Tibbs III (2021 OF, Marietta, GA) is a left handed hitter who really gets nice use of his lower half in generating bat speed and his low hand start helps create plenty of natural lift to drive the ball with.

Thaddeus Ector (2021 3B, Tyrone, GA) is a 6-2/190 switch-hitter with legit bat speed from both sides of the plate.  He has a very calm and simple hitting approach and can get the ball to jump hard from both sides.

Cody Rossman (2020 1B, Sapulpa, OK) has very good present strength in his 6-3/195 build and it shows in how hard he hits the ball with consistent pull side contact.

Corey Avant (2020 OF, Monroe, NC) has a long and slender pitcher's build at 6-4/190 but has a hitting prospect's swing with good present bat speed and plenty more to come as he gets stronger.

Tommy White (2021 3B, St. Pete Beach, FL) has a very mature and strong 6-1/220 build and it quickly became obvious why he was a North Carolina State commit when he effortlessly began lifting balls over the Green Monster in left field.   No projection is needed here.

Ian Bahn (2020 OF, Shoreview, MN) is one of those switch-hitters who would be well served to concentrate on one side of the plate.  His left handed swing has very good bat speed with the ability to drive the ball hard.

Ethan Stamps (2020 2B, Madison, GA) has a strong and compact catcher's build with an aggressive right handed swing with big lower half use and plenty of raw bat speed and power.

Jackson Kemp (2020 C, Gainesville, GA) pretty much just overpowers the ball from the right side with his 6-2/220 generated bat speed, and simple and repeatable swing mechanics.

Brad Grenkoski (2020 OF, Kennesaw, GA) has some serious leverage in his right handed swing and hits the ball seriously high in the air.  The 6-4/200 athlete is very projectable and has a power approach built for his body type.

Kain Collins (2022 OF, Kingston, TN) is a young freshman left handed hitter to watch.  He's 5-10/150 now but will get stronger and has a quick and efficient swing that squared up everything.

Mickey Meguiar (2021 OF, Fletcher, NC) has a projectable 6-2/185 build and a very simple and repeatable right handed swing with present bat speed and plenty more to come as he gets stronger.
