2017 Jr. National Showcase

7-Royal vs. 8-White
6/15/2017 11:02:39 AM
Benjamin Wiegman (2020 RHP, Antioch, IL) has worked from 86-89 mph throughout the game and the fastball showed life to the arm side. The arm speed was impressive and Wiegman creates some deception in his delivery. He worked the arm side corner effectively and is currently committed to Louisville.

Austin Thomas (2019 RHP, Jacksonville, FL) has a tall, lanky, and projectable frame. Thomas throws with little effort and delivers the ball from a shorter arm circle. He mixed in a curveball that showed 12/6 shape but the fastball showed explosion and worked from 87-90 mph while topping out at 91 mph.

Bobby Witt Jr (2019 SS, Colleyville, TX) was again crushing baseballs as he launched a 96 mph triple to dead centerfield. Witt was caught out in front of a bit but still had enough strength and balance to drive the ball an estimated 363 feet, which is wildly impressive.

Joseph Charles (2019 RHP, Celebration, FL) showed some of the best velocity of the event with a lively 91-94 mph fastball. The arm is short in the back and he is able to generate downward life on the fastball when low in the zone. The North Carolina commit also showed a tight slider with a spin rate around 2600 rpm.

Brandon Fields (2020 OF, Orlando, FL) showed off his hand speed as he was able to keep his hands inside and get the barrel onto a ball for a  hard hit, ground ball down the left field line. He has incredible athleticism and was able to stretch the hit into a standup double to drive in two.

Isaiah Bennett (2019 RHP, Fayetteville, NC) also touched 90 mph on the day and worked 88-90 mph throughout his performance. The arm action is long with a slight arm wrap and located the fastball well to both sides of the plate. His secondaries were impressive as well with four pitches including a slider with sharp break.

Tyler Callihan (2019 SS, Neptune Beach, FL) collected a couple of hits during the game. He recorded a 4.4 second time to first base after getting jammed to beat an infield single. He also showed impressive barrel skills no matter where the pitch is.

Cutter Clawson (2019 LHP, Laguna Beach, CA) worked quickly on the mound and had an easy delivery. He worked primarily with his fastball that sat 84-87 mph. Clawson showed solid command to the glove side of the plate and mixed in a soft curveball with 12/6 shape.
