WWBA: Thoughts and scoop (Day 4)

JUPITER, Fla. -- The delightful buffet of outstanding baseball at the PG WWBA World Championship is almost finished, but our work is far from done.

Outstanding 2014 prospect and righthanded pitcher Touki Toussaint finished off the day in style in a start for the Atlanta Blue Jays. Despite the tough loss to Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Chandler, Toussaint again dazzled fans and college coaches alike with a steady diet of fastballs ranging from 92-96 and even some 97s on a few radar guns.

In addition to observations on several top prospects committed to Division I programs, we also have much scoop on programs such as Furman, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Oregon State, among others.


JUPITER OBSERVATIONS

* Assuming they get him on campus next fall, Texas Tech has an excellent 2013 commitment in righthanded pitcher Thaddius Lowry. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder, shined for the South Florida Elite squad during Sunday’s action. The talented righty was 89-91 with his fastball, topping out at 92. But most impressive about his stuff was a nasty 80-82 splitter -- a pitch that was taught to him by legendary big league pitcher Roger Clemens. Lowry is ranked No. 392 nationally, No. 46 in Texas and No. 131 at his position on the national stage ... Also keep an eye on talented Tech 2013 commitment, righthanded pitcher Bryce Welborn. Welborn was 91-92 fastball with a 78 curve.
