I’ve said it for years now, but a beauty of seeing of seeing these players at such a young is it allows you to see both small and large transitions, in players from overall skill jumps to added physical strength. The latter is something that applies to shortstop Bryan Mesa (2028, Hialeah, Fla.) as he has begun filling out his 6-foot-1 frame and will continue to do so throughout his high school career. Saturday night saw Mesa living on the barrel with a scorched ball through the 6-hole thought it was his second knock on the night that was his most impressive swing. Despite getting out onto his front foot a bit, Mesa did a nice job of adjusting his hands and simply flicked the other half pitch the other way, though the swing doesn’t necessarily tell you just how hard the ball came off the barrel as there was some serious life on the liner.
