MLK East Scout Notes: Days 1 & 2

Niko Benestad (2024, Coconut Creek, Fla.) picked up right where he left off last year as he once again took home MVP honors behind another stellar offensive performance. The approach continues to be a sound one as he has a really quiet setup and works efficiently to the ball with a short but strong swing. His bat-to-ball is evidenced by the consistently high average, but the pitch recognition is what can only be seen in his takes that are impressive in their own regard.

Benestad’s teammate Jason Bello (2024, Lehigh Acres, Fla.) is another major contributor to the Canes Florida lineup. He’s athletic and versatile, showing the ability to play multiple positions on the diamond while also eating up solid innings on the mound where he was up to 84 this weekend. Where he makes the biggest impact, however, is with the bat as he looks to have improved his bat speed, which in turn has helped him get the barrel head out more often and generate solid contact with good consistency to the pull side of the field.
