Cort Roedig, RHP, Georgia Tech
The first inning for Roedig in the contest between Georgia Tech and St. John’s gave a strong glimpse of the ceiling that Roedig can reach as a pitcher. The rest of the game did not go as planned, and the stat line is certainly not one he is going to enjoy going back and looking at, but the stuff is loud. In his first inning and into his second one Roedig sat 93-95 mph with his fastball while also topping out at 96 mph once. From the stretch the velocity did dip a tick sitting more 89-93 mph. His curveball is an average pitch but will feature above average spin at times as well. Sitting from 79-81 mph with the breaking ball, he showed it as well as a changeup that is straight and deceptive to opposing hitters.

The delivery is very athletic, although unorthodox, with an air squat that leads into his quick windup. The arm stroke is fast and he gets the arm slot to a high three-quarters release. There is not a ton of extension in Roedig’s delivery and he did find a surprising amount of bats when in the zone with his pitches. Roedig seemed to nibble the edges as well leading to unwanted walks to the St. John’s hitters and overall below average command.

There certainly are things to like with Roedig however as he is still just a sophomore with a live arm. The stuff is there for the righthander and with continued refinement on the mound he is going to be a dominant piece to a young and talented Georgia Tech pitching staff.
