The Conejo Oaks, in their 13th year in the CCL, won their first ever league championship by defeating the Orange County Riptide in the title game. Oaks’ skipper David Soliz was named Coach of the Year and third baseman Brandon Lewis was named league MVP. Lewis, who is now a junior at UC Irvine by way of Pierce College, also won the CCL Triple Crown with a line of .397-8-25.

In another piece of great news for the CCL, the Santa Barbara Foresters won their seventh National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series Championship this summer. That is the most ever for one team in the 84-year history of the event. The Foresters once again added to their case for the title of best Collegiate Summer franchise of all time. 

One of the fascinating aspects of the CCL continues to be its national draw, especially among Power 5 schools. The 2018 All-CCL team included six players from both the SEC and the Big 12. Per usual, the West Coast was also well represented with eight all league players combined from the Pac-12, Big West and WCC.

1. Caleb Sloan, rhp, Santa Barbara (Texas Christian/SO in 2019)
Colorado pitchers are known for a slower development path and Sloan fits nicely into that category after a breakout summer in Santa Barbara. Sloan possesses a big arm and the perfect pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, yet his freshman season at TCU was rather pedestrian. He gained significant polish in the CCL, showing above average command of a fastball that sat 91-93 mph. Sloan’s curveball is another above average offering and he commanded that pitch as well. He averaged over a strikeout per inning and his walks were down this summer. Sloan seemed to unlock his pitchability with the Foresters and there is considerable upside left in the tank.
