15u SE Championship Notes

Luke Heyman
(2022, Longwood, Fla.), a right fielder for FTB Select 2022 is an intriguing follow. Heyman shows barrel frequency, hitting hard line drives all over the field. He collected a loud single to left against SWFL Nation. Standing 6-foot-3, 164-pounds, Heyman has yet to fill out and should add power later on.

FTB teammate Justin Frias (2022, Winter Garden, Fla.) plays a solid shortstop. The 5-foot-7 middle infielder has a good first step and solid arm strength. Picking up a single to centerfield, Frias showed a compact swing with good bat speed.

Earning a win on the mound and collecting a few hits at the plate was Elijah Green (2022, Widermere, Fla.). He is an athletic, wiry kid with the chance to add on muscle. Green ripped a double to left field, turning on the ball and driving it to the wall. On the bump, Green touches 78 mph and has projectability at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds.

Sawyer Hawks (2021, Lakeland, Fla.) has a presence on the field at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. The soon-to-be 15-year-old has present power at the plate and could do damage to the baseball. Getting a fastball low and inside, Hawks dropped the barrel into his wheelhouse, driving a single into left field. He has easy bat speed and the ball comes off his bat with authority.

Throwing three strong innings for SWFL Nation was Derek Ortiz (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.). A natural second baseman, Ortiz showed solid pitching mechanics on the mound with a repeatable delivery and does a nice job of getting through his pitches with solid extension. In his three innings of work, he collected five strikeouts and didn’t allow a run.

Cruising to a 9-0 victory over NLCP, Tyler Denison (2021, Jesup, Ga.) went four innings and struck out seven batters. Averaging 80 mph with his fastball and topping out at 82 mph, the 6-foot-2 righthander was able to miss bats. He mixed in an 11-to-5 curveball at 67-70 mph, showing the ability to drop it in for a strike and expand the zone.

Shortstop Xavier Cintron (2021, Orlando, Fla.) showed a solid swing path and bat control at the plate. He went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a double while helping SBO Florida 14u earn a win over 5 Star – Glynn. A solid option for the two-hole in the lineup, Cintron is a contact hitter who can get on base or move a runner over.

First baseman Joey Guelli (2021, Wellington, Fla.) handles the bat well and shows production as a clean-up hitter. Going 2-for-3 with an RBI, Guelli shows quick bat speed and a good swing path. A projectable 6-foot, 150-pounds, Guelli will continue to fill out and start hitting with power.

Another tall kid with the chance to fill out is Jorge Cartagena (2021, Carolina, Puerto Rico). He stands 6-foot-1, 157-pounds and shows patience at the plate. When he got a pitch he could handle, he didn’t miss it, knocking a double. Cartagena presently is a gap hitter with pull side power.
