EMERSON, Ga. – Tri-State Arsenal defeated Banditos Scout Team in the championship game of the 2017 14U PG Spring Kick Off. Tri-State rode the arm of righthander Ethan Wood as he threw a complete game in a 3-1 victory.

Wood, the No. 4 ranked prospect for the class of 2021 and committed to Louisville, was electric early on in the game. Consistently touching 87 mph, Wood used his dynamic fast ball to attack hitters and rack up strikeouts. He had a shut out until the last inning, but gave up a run before closing out the championship. Wood finished with a final line of five innings while only giving up that one earned run and striking out five batters.

Opposing Wood on the mound for the Banditos was right hander Gregorio Campos. The Bandito’s starter was sitting 81-83 in the first inning and gave the opposing batters difficulty early on. Campos ended up throwing a complete game as well but gave up three early runs that came back to haunt him. Campos battled all game long and ended up stifling the offense after the second inning.

All of the runs that Campos allowed were not necessarily due to timely hitting on Tri State’s part, but due to some mistakes the Banditos made along the way. In the first inning, two runs were scrored following a passed ball and a sacrifice fly. Tri State finished with one RBI in the game and took advantage of opportunities.

The MVP of the tournament was Daylen Lile of Tri-State. He finished the event with a .467 batting average (seven hits), six RBI, six runs scored, and six stolen bases. Dalton Strickland of the Banditos was named MV-Pitcher for the tournament. He had a wildly impressive start in the semifinal game where he tossed a complete game shutout while striking out four and walking none.

EMERSON, Ga. –
In one of the most dramatic games seen at PG Park in a long time, Elite Squad edged out Team Siege by a score of 8-7 in eight innings to win the 13u PG Spring Kick-Off. The back-and-forth drama came near the end as the beginning of the game moved along quite quickly with no team scoring until the fifth inning.

Wilder Puertas was putting together a strong outing for Siege until the fifth inning when Elite Squad finally broke through. After an error, an RBI walk, and an RBI fielder’s choice Elite Squad was up 3-0 and the lead looked insurmountable after what had occurred over the previous four innings.

Team Siege would not go down so easily, however. They were threatening with two runners on and no outs when Elite Squad pitcher Logan Forsythe induced a double play. With two outs, Siege put together back-to-back RBI hits off the bats of Derek Bermudez and Adrian Dominguez to bring the game within one run.

In the seventh inning, Siege tied the score. With two outs a line drive, RBI single tied the score at three and ensured that the game would head to extras.

Siege would keep adding more when in the top of the eighth, they broke out for four runs. Two RBI hits, a suicide squeeze, and a passed ball put Siege up four runs late in the game and the championship final looked to be decided.

Elite Squad had other plans as they put together a rally of their own to remain in the game. Eventual tournament MVP Giovanny Cueto doubled in a run to cut the lead to three runs. What followed were four consecutive hits, three of them run-scoring, and in an instant Elite Squad had put up a five spot and won the 14u Spring Kick-Off.

Giovanny Cueto was named tournament MVP for his hitting on Elite Squad. He finished with a .563 batting average (nine hits) including thirteen RBI and nine runs scored. Kader Rabagh was named MV-Pitcher for Team Siege. He finished with 5.1 innings of one-run ball while striking out eight batters and allowing only two hits.
