Feb. 28 Top 25Top 150 Junior College Prospects

Once again this week, and at this point it's of no surprise to anyone, Chipola remains at the top of the JuCo rankings. They had a 3-1 week, including a split with fellow ranked team LSU-Eunice. They sit at 19-4, and will now enter the real meat of the season, as conference play for the Indians starts on Tuesday.

Speaking of conference play, it's either well underway (Arizona, specifically), just getting going (many of the schools in California, Texas, and others) or just about to start (everyone else), so as such, make sure to pay special attention right here every week as the rankings have a tendency to be even more fluid once everyone starts playing in conference.

Rounding out the top 5 behind Chipola this week are some familiar characters. Santa Rosa (Calif.) jumps to No. 2 this week following an undefeated 3-0 week; they sit at 13-2 overall right now. Jones County (Miss.) is one of the bigger risers this week, jumping from No. 6 all the way up to No. 3; they're the only undefeated team in the Top 25 right now at 14-0. San Jac (Texas) slipped two spots to No. 4, following a 3-2 week which puts them at 15-6 overall. And rounding out the top 5 is Santa Fe (Fla.), remaining in the same spot as last week.

After splitting with No. 1 Chipola and picking up a pair of other wins en route to a 3-1 week and a 19-3 overall record, LSU-Eunice moved up a couple of spots to No. 6. We don't often get into individual stats in this space, preferring to speak on team-wide movement or scouting info, but it needs to be mentioned that LSU-Eunice sophomore Michael Claverie is having some kind of season. Through 83 at-bats, Claverie is hitting over .500 with a triple slash line of .506/.571/.976 (1.547 OPS) with 20 extra-base hits, including nine home runs. The phrase 'video game numbers' wouldn't even be doing him justice here.

Rounding out the top 10 are Connors State (Okla.) holding steady at No. 7, Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) slipping to No. 8 from No. 4, State College of Florida (Fla.) rising one spot to No. 9 and Walters State (Tenn.) making their top 10 debut of the season at No. 10.

Newcomers to the rankings this week include Johnson County (Kan.) at No. 15, as they debut after a tremendous week which saw them beat then-No. 9 Neosho County four times, giving JCCC a 13-3 overall record a conference mark of 4-0. Also new is South Mountain (Ariz.) who debuts at No. 25 as they sit at 18-6 overall with a very impressive 9-1 conference mark.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, March 5.
