In
the weeks leading up to the draft, Perfect Game will be providing a
detailed overview of each state in the U.S., including the District
of Columbia, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico. These overviews will
list the state's strengths, weaknesses and the players with the best
tools, as well as providing scouting reports on all Group 1 and 2
players as ranked in Perfect Game's state-by-state scouting lists.

Overview:
Little
Reason for Scouts to Venture to Vermont
Even
when the University of Vermont fielded a baseball program and would
occasionally produce a drafted player, Vermont ranked dead last among
the 50 states in terms of producing draftable baseball talent. With
the Catamounts disbanding their baseball program following the 2009
season, leaving Vermont without a Division I program, there is even
less reason for scouts to travel to the state.
The
state has had no drafted players in five of the last six years, and
none is expected to be selected this year. No high-school player from
Vermont has been drafted since 2002, and over the 47-year history of
the baseball draft, only 38 players have ever been selected out of
Vermont colleges or high schools.
Righthander
Tony Baldic, who led Mt. Anthony Union High to the state Division I
prep title a year ago, was regarded as Vermont’s top baseball
talent entering 2012, but elected not to even play baseball this
spring.
