Twelve teams from across the Midwest came together for a round robin at Griffon Indoor Facilities at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo. Nebraska Gold 816 16U and Illinois Ruthless reigned victorious, winning each of their pools with an overall record of 4-0. Both teams possess elite pitching staff and dynamite sluggers, each allowing single-digit runs and outscoring their opponents.

Nebraska Gold 816 16U allowed only eight runs this weekend, while scoring 24. Kierra Goos (2023, Manhattan, Kan.) of Nebraska Gold 816 – 16, is an arsenal in the circle, producing 60-62 mph velocity. Even more impressive are her spins, each presenting incredible movement through the zone. Goos works the corners and rarely misses her spots. This uncommitted junior has quick circle movement with a fantastic late-breaking riseball. She is also defensively sharp in the circle with fast reaction time. In 10 innings, Goos sat down 15 batters, earning a 1.40 WHIP for the weekend.

Teammate Madeline Ball (2023, Independence, Mo.) helped lead her team to victory with an outstanding presence at the plate. As an uncommitted junior, Ball has a true feel for the barrel with plus power at the plate. She’s a difficult out, having a simple, but effective cut that drives through the ball, getting the job done with five hits. She crossed the plate three times in addition to driving in five more runs. Huge future for this disciplined hitter.

NE Quakes Prime- Jonas 15U came to play this weekend with a killer defense that allowed only three runs, ending the weekend with a 3-1 record, led by Brooke Janning (2025, Blair, Neb.). This uncommitted freshman has an impressive future ahead of her as she continues to strengthen in her already-remarkable skills. As a 5-foot-5 LHP, she’s currently producing 55-56 mph speeds. Janning dominates the outside corner of plate with an elite screwball that slices through the zone, creating swing-and-miss results, having collected 11 strikeouts in eight innings, allowing only one run for an 0.63 WHIP.

Kyra Kain (2024, Urbandale, Iowa) has an elite feel for the barrel. This 5-foot-10 hitter for Iowa Aces has long at-bats, forcing the pitcher to give her the pitch that she wants. Ten-plus pitches in a single at-bat are common for this determined slugger. With her tenacity as a batter, Kain finished the weekend with an overall 0.625 OBP with three hits, crossing the plate four times. She has a simple load and explosive cut, producing huge power for this young athlete.

Illinois Ruthless 16U is an aggressive, disciplined team, whose name describes them perfectly. This team was ruthless in the second pool, with a 4-0 record, having crossed the pay station 33 times and allowing only five for their opponents. With their insane offensive stack-up, it’s no wonder they were so successful. One to shine above the rest was Ruby Tarr (2024, Sidney, Ill.), who brings great momentum for her team at the plate. Racking up five hits and four runs on the day, Tarr has an elite swing with the ability to take the barrel to the ball, driving to extension. Massive power for this sophomore slugger. Her teammate, Jenna Adkins (2025, Gifford, Ill.), is right alongside her causing destruction in the box. This freshman is a rising star with limitless potential. Her exceptional speed helped her steal five bases. Adkins presents a clean swing path and a strong lower half which yielded in a .667 average for the day, crossing the pay station four times, and knocking in six additional runs.

Makala Koozer (2025, Gretna, Neb.) is a lefty hitter who loves to play the opposite field, consistently sending the ball down the left field line. This 5-foot-3 freshman for Primetime – Koozer is a force to be reckoned with at the plate, with a combination of elite speed and tremendous pop on the ball, Koozer went six for eight at the plate. She puts the ball in play, with stolen bases and four RBI for the weekend. Excited to see this scrappy hitter’s future shine.

KC Zephyrs Harsh went 3-1 for this weekend, having scored 24 times. Helping in the cause was Madelyn Reed (2025, Lee’s Summit, Mo.). This 5-foot-2 freshman is savage at the plate, going 4-for-5 on the day, scoring five times and driving in five more. Reed’s simple approach is effective in getting her hands to contact and making things happen for her team. Keep an eye on this young prospect.

Our last showstopper to be highlighted is Waukee Nw Wolves’ Laurel Richards (2025, Clive, Iowa). Having gone 4-for-5 in this round robin, she is a difficult opponent to face. Richards collected two singles and two doubles, proving that her quick hands and powerful lower half can cause frenzy. She tallied up three runs and four RBI on the weekend.

Freedom Classic Opens Holiday Weekend

More than 30 teams from the 14U-18U age divisions will head to Fort Myers, Florida this Fourth of July weekend for the seventh annual Perfect Game Freedom Classic. The tournament, running July 3-6, features several nationally ranked prospects from across the country as teams look to compete for a championship. Headlining the field are twin brothers Derek and Ryan Yormark of Merrick, New York. Right-handed pitcher Derek Yormack is the No. 51-ranked player in the class of 2027, the No. 1 player in New York and the No. 5-ranked right-handed pitcher in the country. Asher Contreras (2030 | Las Vegas, NV) The 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter and outfielder was one of the most dangerous hitters in the tournament for Wow Factor Nv 2030, stuffing the stat sheet while displaying an impressive combination of power and speed. Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. JK Select Hawaii capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating GBG Vegas 14u Red14-4 in the championship game on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark, claiming the 14u West World Series title. From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Following a jam-packed week of entertainment at the 17u WWBA Championships, the top nationally ranked program, USA Prime 17u National/Detroit Tigers Scout Team, faced off against Stacked Baseball 17u (No. 80 nationally) in the highly anticipated championship matchup as both teams looked to earn one of the most prestigious titles in all of travel baseball. Each talented squad entered the finale undefeated, but Stacked Baseball continued their dominance throughout the tournament, defeating the Detroit Tigers Scout Team 10-2 in mercy rule fashion to become national champions behind explosive bats and impressive pitching.
