1. Detroit Tigers | Spencer Torkelson, 1B, Arizona State
The big constant throughout this process has been the Tigers love of Spencer Torkelson and we fully expect the Tigers to select the Arizona State first baseman. Barring something unforeseen, this pick will be Torkelson, Asa Lacy has been mentioned here but we believe it’s unlikely he goes here.
2. Baltimore Orioles | Austin Martin, 3b/cf, Vanderbilt
There have been about a dozen names attached to Baltimore as part of an underslot deal, namely the trio of Heston Kjerstad, Nick Gonzales, and top prep Zac Veen. The Orioles will hold steadfast and take the best player available whom they believe is Martin.
3. Miami Marlins | Asa Lacy, lhp, Texas A&M
Lacy is the top player on the Marlins board and they would take the top-ranked arm here, if Martin was available he might cause some hesitation but they’ll take the hard-throwing lefty.
4. Kansas City Royals | Zac Veen, OF, Spruce Creek (FL)
The Royals pop the first prep off the board in the sweet swinging lefthanded hitter from Florida. This is another scenario where the draft can really split as although the Royals have been all over Veen as of late they could go with Nick Gonzales as well.
5. Toronto Blue Jays | Max Meyer, RHP, Minnesota
The Blue Jays have long been enamored with college pitching and Meyer did just enough in their eyes to edge out Georgia ace Emerson Hancock. Both arms are in this mix as is Gonzales.
6. Seattle Mariners | Emerson Hancock, RHP, Georgia
The Mariners love Hancock’s upside and this fits with their trend of selecting college prospects. Gonzales is also in play here but Hancock is too much to pass up.
7. Pittsburgh Pirates | Nick Gonzales, 2B, New Mexico State
The slide for Gonzales ends with Pittsburgh as they’ll grab a player they didn’t think would be here a week ago. There’s been heavy rumors about Arkansas slugger Heston Kjerstad as well as a potential underslot for local prep Austin Hendrick.
8. San Diego Padres | Robert Hassell III, OF, Independence (Tenn.)
Hassell is viewed largely as the top prep hitter and the Padres have been enamored with him. They would take Max Meyer if he were available and the same goes for top prep Zac Veen.
9. Colorado Rockies | Tyler Soderstrom, C, Turlock (Calif.)
Soderstrom has been steadily rising all spring and the Rockies are rumored to be very interested. There’s interest in Zac Veen if he falls as well as Louisville lefthander Reid Detmers and Southern California prep Pete Crow-Armstrong.
10. Los Angeles Angels | Reid Detmers, LHP, Louisville
Detmers is viewed as the safest arm in the draft and the Angels would grab him here at ten. There have been rumors of their interest in both Oklahoma arm Cade Cavalli and Southern California prep Drew Bowser.
11. Chicago White Sox | Garrett Crochet, LHP, Tennessee
Crochet has potentially the biggest upside in the draft and the White Sox have been tied to most of the top college arms in the event they drop. They’ve been interested in Tyler Soderstrom as well, who’s off the board in this scenario.
12. Cincinnati Reds | Heston Kjerstad, OF, Arkansas
As we’ve mentioned, Kjerstad is in play much higher than this even at No. 2 to Baltimore. The Reds would seriously consider Pennsylvania prep Austin Hendrick here as well as Soderstrom if he falls.
13. San Francisco Giants | Cade Cavalli, RHP, Oklahoma
Cavalli would be the top college arm in this scenario, the Giants would also consider Patrick Bailey out of North Carolina State as well as Soderstrom if he’s still available.
14. Texas Rangers | Aaron Sabato, 1b, North Carolina
This pick gained some traction yesterday and has seemingly solidified with Sabato’s offensive upside and presumed safety. Garrett Crochet and Robert Hassell III would be seriously considered here if available.
15. Philadelphia Phillies | Patrick Bailey, C, North Carolina State
Bailey’s slide will stop with Philadelphia who reminds some of the brass of current catcher JT Realmuto. Philly has been interested in seemingly every demographic with some major interest in Pennsylvania prep Nick Bitsko.
16. Chicago Cubs | Garrett Mitchell, OF, UCLA
Mitchell is one of the more polarizing players in the draft as there’s a possibility he doesn’t go in the first round. Cubs brass believes he’s comparable to Jacoby Ellsbury but they’ve also been tied with the many prep lefthanded hitting outfielders.
17. Boston Red Sox | Mick Abel, RHP, Jesuit (Ore.)
Abel and the Red Sox have been tied as of the last week and their interest in him, and his upside, is substantial. There have been rumors of an under slot deal at seventeen but we believe they stick to their guns and take the top prep arm.
18. Arizona Diamondbacks | Justin Foscue, 2B, Mississippi State
Foscue could find a home higher than this to more analytically-inclined teams, and is certainly in play for Arizona here. They have also been potentially tied to Bryce Jarvis from Duke, and could entertain a falling prep bat.
19. New York Mets | Clayton Beeter, RHP, Texas Tech
The Mets love a college arm here at nineteen and Beeter would be tops on their board of available arms, there’s also a chance they take one of the falling prep bats.
20. Milwaukee Brewers | Pete Crow-Armstrong, of, Harvard-Westlake (Calif.)
There have been numerous prospects tied to the Brewers, including Ohio State catcher Dillon Dingler, but the upside of Crow-Armstrong here is too much to ignore.
21. St. Louis Cardinals | Austin Hendrick, OF, West Allegheny (Penn.)
We believe this would be the floor for Hendrick as the Cardinals are in love with his tools. They’ve long been known to grab guys who fall on draft day and Hendrick would fit that mold similarly how Nolan Gorman did a couple of years prior.
22. Washington Nationals | Cole Wilcox, RHP, Georgia
Wilcox fits the bill for the Nationals who are considering a wide net of prospects including other college arms as well as some high-priced preps.
23. Cleveland Indians | Slade Cecconi, RHP, Miami
Cecconi fits with the Indians here who would also consider prospects like Austin Wells or Tanner Burns with the pick here.
24. Tampa Bay Rays | Nick Loftin, ss, Baylor
The Rays have had interest in some upside preps but instead opt for the safe option in Nick Loftin out of Baylor, they’ll still have the opportunity to take upside later in the draft.
25. Atlanta Braves | Jared Kelley, RHP, Refugio (Texas)
The Braves have been rumored to be interested in local product Cole Wilcox as well as potential under slot deals but they’ll take Kelley if he’s available at 25.
26. Oakland Athletics | Dillon Dingler, C, Ohio State
After missing out on their first pick last year the Athletics won’t miss this year and Dingler has been rumored to be in the 20s and he fits the Athletics’ interest.
27. Minnesota Twins | Bryce Jarvis, RHP, Duke
Jarvis has been rising for quite a while, there’s rumors of him being in play in the late teens and there has also been some Sabato interest if he’s available for the Twins.
28. New York Yankees | Bobby Miller, RHP, Louisville
The Yankees tend to circle their target and often get him in the back end of the first. In this case it’s Miller with Austin Wells and Carson Tucker also being in play.
29. Los Angeles Dodgers | Nick Bitsko, RHP, Central Bucks-East (Penn.)
The third prep arm off the board, Bitsko won’t be an easy sign but the Dodgers like to pounce on value at the back of the first with some college arms being in play.
30. Baltimore Orioles | Daxton Fulton, LHP, Mustang (Okla.)
Fulton is a prime candidate to go in the first comp round and the Orioles are trying their hardest to float a prep arm like Fulton or Bitsko to their second pick.
31. Pittsburgh Pirates | Chris McMahon, RHP, Miami
The Pirates are rumored to be very interested in McMahon, some other college arms are in play as well as potential fallers from the first round.
32. Kansas City Royals | Tanner Witt, RHP, Episcopal (Texas)
Witt has had helium for weeks with impressive TrackMan data and is in play starting in the late first. He won’t be an easy sign but he’ll be a good fit with the Royals and Veen.
33. Arizona Diamondbacks | Ed Howard, SS, Mount Carmel (Ill.)
Howard is in play in the 20s but makes it to the Diamondbacks who have a lot of room to get creative due to their picks. Austin Wells is also a possibility here.
34. San Diego Padres | Jared Shuster, LHP, Wake Forest
Shuster has been steadily rising and could have gone higher if the season played out; the Padres have also been rumored to love Masyn Winn who is in play here as well.
35. Colorado Rockies | Austin Wells, C, Arizona
Wells slide stops with the Rockies who won’t pass up the opportunity for an impact bat to pair with Soderstrom. Jordan Walker has rumored to be of interest in the comp round and would fit with the Rockies.
36. Cleveland Indians | Carson Tucker, SS, Mountain Pointe (Ariz.)
Tucker is a strong fit for Cleveland after taking a college arm in the first. Austin Wells, Tanner Burns, and Blaze Jordan are also possibilities here.
37. Tampa Bay Rays | Markevian Hence, RHP, Watson Chapel (AR)
The Rays have been strongly connected to Hence in the last few days with a possible under slot deal looming; this could also be a spot for South Carolina ace Carmen Mlodzinski.
