Bryson Stott, UNLV
Playing DH in a midweek contest against UC Riverside prevented a look at Bryson Stott’s defensive skills, although his lofty reputation in all phases of the game preceded him. He did show all of his other talents offensively, a lefthanded hitter with a very advanced approach at the plate. He didn’t chase anything early in the count as he zeroed in on a pitch he could drive seemingly unworried about falling behind in the count.

Stott stands in the lefthanded batter’s box with an upright stance and a base that’s wider than shoulder length, starting with his hands near his ear before drawing them back into his load. He uses a moderate leg kick and stride into his swing with an all-fields approach. In this game he served up a ball to the opposite field in left for a single and then later turned on one for a home run to his pull side in right, showing his game-changing bat speed in both swings. Stott also added a stolen base (his 12thof the year in 15 attempts) giving a full look at his offensive talents as one of the most well rounded players, at any level, available for this year’s draft.
