Rankings Risers: Class of 2018
Jordyn Adams – 309 to 31 (OF, Cary, N.C.)
A high-end football player and big-time baseball player as well make Adams a superstar two sport athlete. His plus speed and advanced hit tool for his amount of playing time are very intriguing to scouts. The signee to North Carolina showed out at NHSI and has really soared up draft boards as well as PG’s most recent rankings list.
Lawrence Butler – 219 to 85 (2018, Atlanta, Ga.)
A lean 6-foot-4 athlete with a fluid lefthanded swing and good speed is a sure sign of a player with lots of upside. That is what Butler brings to the table for Westlake High School as well as the ability to play multiple positions both in the outfield and at first base. At a recent PG event, the 2018 May 6 Pre-Draft Game at East Cobb, Butler really showed off his ability in batting practice and in the game as well.
Jacob Campbell – 393 to 130 (2018, Janesville, Wis.)
Campbell is creating lots of buzz in the Midwest with what he has shown this spring with the bat. The Fighting Illini commit has strength to his swing with the ability to lift the ball for power to all fields. As a catcher, Campbell has a lot to like especially with his arm strength and flexibility behind the plate. Campbell’s performance this spring has been a big indicator of why his draft stock, as well as his PG ranking, have improved.
Reese Olson – 307 to 139 (2018, Lula, Ga.)
Olson, who popped up last summer with a fastball peaking at 93 mph, worked a pair of innings at LakePoint in front of numerous scouts at the 2018 May 14 Pre-Draft live bullpen event. Olson, a Georgia Tech signee, is a skinny 6-foot-1 pitcher with lots of room to fill throughout. He featured a sinking changeup that sat in the 85-86 mph range that accompanied the low-90s fastball well. Olson’s strong showing helped him boost up the rankings list 168 spots to 139.
Tyler O'Clair – 500 to 282 (2018, Calera, Ala.)
O’Clair is an intriguing prospect who has really popped up this spring. The signee to UAB is a pitcher to look out for moving forward standing at 6-foot-5 185-pounds and has seen a steady increase to his velocity this spring. O’Clair has not played in many PG events, but was most recently up to 91 mph at the East Coast Pro showcase. Scouts really like the upside that O’Clair possesses and his performance this spring has helped him jump up from 500 to 282 overall.
Will Ripoll – 500 to 294 (2018, New Orleans, La.)
Ripoll stood out at NHSI in front of PG scouts among others. Turning in a fastball up to 91 mph, Ripoll was up to 92 mph with his fastball. Ripoll has generated a lot of buzz in the state of Louisiana as he is committed to LSU to play for the Tigers. Not an overly physical presence, Ripoll can really pitch with a fastball and good curveball as well. The two pitch mix and overall outing helped Ripoll rise up 206 spots to 294th overall in the latest class of 2018 PG rankings.
