It took six tries under the guidance of Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan, but the Florida Gators finally got their NCAA College Baseball Championship on Tuesday when they defeated LSU 6-1 in the second game of the CWS Finals. The Gators have made themselves regulars in Omaha, having been there now three years in a row and six of the last eight. In addition to their championship, O'Sullian's Gators also finished as the runner-up in 2011.

The road certainly didn't seem like an easy one, and it also seemed like O'Sullivan had more star power on some of his more recent CWS squads. However, this team had the right blend to walk away with a championship, and similar to past years, the devotion to recruiting by O'Sullivan and his staff means next year could mark the fourth year in a row that Florida makes the trip north to Omaha.

Florida opened the season ranked fourth, and entered the postseason ranked fifth. Of the eight teams that made it to the College World Series seven of them (No. 1 TCU, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Florida State, No. 4 Florida, No. 6 Louisville, No. 7 Oregon State and No. 15 Cal State Fullerton) were ranked in the Preseason Top 25. The other, Texas A&M, was ranked just outside at No. 26.

And while there were no surprises among the teams that made it to Omaha most of the individual games were won by the team that had the higher ranking, at least until the Final Four when LSU beat Oregon State twice to advance only to have the favor returned to them by Florida. It should be noted that both the Gators and the Tigers finished the regular season with a 21-9 record within the SEC, and they also finished with near identical overall records (52-19 and 52-20).

Congratulations to all of the teams that made it to the College World Series, especially the champion Gators.
