The first weekend of the 2017 college baseball season is now history, although several series across the country will be extending into today, meaning some of the teams below could move a little more than usual depending on those total series results. That said, since this is the first update of the 2017 season we tried not to over-react too much based on the results.

Two new teams do enter the rankings as Cal Poly and Coastal Carolina drop out. Texas A&M, who opened the season just outside the Top 25, debut at No. 23 after going 3-0 over the weekend and out-scored Bowling Green 50-8. Aggies' leadoff hitter and center fielder Nick Choruby went 8-for-12 in the three-game series, getting on base four more time via a walk while hitting a double, a home run, driving in five and scoring an amazing 10 runs. Virginia, who also opened the year at 3-0, showed a lot of resilience beating three solid clubs over the weekend (Liberty, The Citadel and Kansas in Charleston, S.C.) and are now ranked 24th after opening the year 27th.

The biggest wins occurred in Oxford, Miss. as Ole Miss swept visiting East Carolina, capped by a thrilling come-from-behind contest on Sunday. Since Ole Miss opened the year ranked so high they will not move up but they certainly are a program to watch. Their bullpen in particular (possibly the biggest reason why we had Ole Miss ranked eighth to open the season) combined to allow just two earned runs in 10 2/3 innings, with Will Stokes and Dallas Woolfolk each making a pair of appearances.

Be sure to check out the new Perfect Game College Player Database. Our scouts were at various games in nearly every part of the nation from Thursday through Sunday night covering ranked teams such as Louisville, Maryland, Oregon State, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State, among others.

And don't forget to tune in to Perfect Game College Baseball tonight from 9-11 p.m. EST on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, channel 84. Perfect Game's Daron Sutton and Mike Rooney will wrap up the opening weekend of the 2017 college baseball season while taking a look ahead to week two.
