In the days and weeks leading up to the annual Perfect Game All-American Classic, the Perfect Game Cares Foundation and the 60 players selected for the event worked together to raise money for the Rady Children's Center and the Perfect Game Cares Grow The Game Fund.
In total, the event raised more than $112,000. Georgia native Dylan Lesko and New Jersey native Carsten Sabathia were the top fundraisers, bringing in $20,325 and $13,450, respectively. Since the inception of the All-American Classic, Perfect Game has raised more than $1 million, with the bulk of it going to Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children's Hospital.
The first pitch of the All-American Classic was thrown out by honorary captain Carter Santos, who the All-Americans got to know throughout their time in San Diego. Santos is a Rady Children's cancer survivor.
On top of the fundraising efforts put forth by the All-Americans, Perfect Game and the Perfect Game Cares Foundation held a free kids camp at the Jackie Robinson YMCA on August 19. A number of former MLB stars, including San Diego's Trevor Hoffman, were in attendance to help grow the game and give their knowledge of the game to the kids of San Diego. In total, 260 kids attended the free camp and left with a big swag bag that included a glove, bat, ball, and other items, thanks to Perfect Game, TOP Chops Beef Jerky, Augusta Sportswear, and Rawlings.
