Matthew Vargas is a 2020 2B/IF/RHP with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Coral Springs, FL who attends Coral Springs Charter. Medium athletic build with some young present strength and room for more. Right handed hitter, hits from an upright wide base with an early shift to his front side, brings his hands with him well and generates some bat speed and leverage at contact, line drive swing plane and can turn on the ball with some jump, short and quick swing. 7.44 runner, has good lateral actions and fields the ball out front with soft hands and a clean exchange, throws from a lower arm slot with a longer release with multiple check points, developing arm strength. Also pitched, side arm to low 3/4's arm slot, short stride with an upper body rotational delivery, compact arm action. Fastball topped out at 75 mph, throws his curveball frequently and for strikes, works quickly and fills up the zone while keeping hitters off balance. Good student.
