Spencer Nicely (2023, Summit, N.J.) toed the rubber for the Diamond Jacks Supers Friday night, tossing four perfect innings, sitting down all 12 batters he faced. Needing only 43 pitches to work get through four full, Nicely would punch out eight LI Elite Prospect’s as he would throw 81% strikes, consistently pounding the zone, working in the lower third extremely well. Using his 6-foot-3 frame to create a tough downhill look for opposing hitters, the uncommitted right-hander would come from an over-the-top arm slot, working with a simple, athletic operation, getting down the slope with a lot of intent. Nicely would retire the side to begin the top of the first, working his heater in the 84-86 mph range, later settling into the 82-83 mph range. Showing some serious heavy life through the zone, Nicely looked to be throwing bowling bowls on the mound his fastball would just stay at the opposing hitter’s knees. Pairing his heater with a hammer 12-6 curveball, the Summit, New Jersey native should a lot of confidence in the pitch, landing it in various counts for strikes. Nicely generated tons of swing-and-misses throughout his four innings of work and was a major contributor to the Diamond Jacks Super 17’s Friday night victory to kick off the Northeast Qualifier.
