Parker Byrd Fundraising Tournament Set

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Perfect Game, along with the Perfect Game Cares Foundation and the South Charlotte Panthers and its General Manager, Scott Clemons, have announced a tournament from Sept. 30 - Oct. 2, the WWBA Warm Up - Parker Byrd Foundation, set to be played on the campus of East Carolina University.

The tournament will be played in an effort to raise money for its namesake, Parker Byrd, a 2022 graduate of Scotland Country High School in Laurinburg, N.C. Byrd, who was set to enroll at East Carolina and play on the ECU baseball team this fall, was involved in a boating accident in late July. After a month in the hospital and over a dozen surgeries, including having part of his right leg amputated, Byrd was discharged in late August and has been recovering at home, with every intention of fulfilling his dream of playing college baseball for the Pirates in the future.

As a longtime member of the South Charlotte Panthers organization, Byrd and GM Scott Clemons developed a close relationship over the years.

"I had the honor to coach Parker Byrd from 2018-2022," Clemons said. "During this time I was able to watch Parker grow as a person off the field and a player on the field. In my 21 years of coaching I have never had a baseball player as well-rounded of a baseball player as Parker. Parker possesses intangibles such as leadership, always giving his best effort, preparation and always doing the right thing off the field. Taking all these intangibles into consideration and his talent on the field is what makes Parker Byrd a winner on the field and in life. Thank you for having me along for the journey for four years Parker, I knew you are going to do big things from Day 1 and I can't wait to see what happens next!"

The tournament will feature four travel ball teams - Canes National, C35, Dirtbags, and South Charlotte Panthers - playing in a round robin format.

There is a donation page set up to benefit Parker and help him get back on the baseball field, while those who wish to donate can also text 'ParkerByrd' to 76278.

In addition to those fundraising efforts, there will be a silent auction held on October 1 as part of the Parker Byrd Luncheon, held in Harvey Hall on ECU's campus. The luncheon begins at 12:00 PM and doors are open to all. As part of the luncheon, Byrd's jersey will be retired by East Carolina.
