Georgia commit Jake Lankie (2023, McDonough, Ga.) got the start for his 5 Star National squad in the playoffs and made the most of his opportunity. Well known for his consistent performances on big stages, Lankie added to the resume this weekend. He has long levers standing at 6-foot-1, and the right-hander still has room to fill out physically making him projectable. Simple mechanics wise as he lifts to the belt before working down the hill. Gets extended and released from a higher slot. Creates a bit of downhill angle at ties. Feel for three pitches and does a great job mixing it up. Fastball sitting in the mid-80s while popping some upper-80s early in the outing. Proved he could work the fastball to all four quadrants and rarely left it over the plate. Also went to a fading changeup in the upper-70s that was tunneled well off the heater. Rounded the arsenal off with a sharp breaking ball showing 11-5 actions in the mid-70s. Pitchability being the name of his game and when he adds more velocity to the equation, opposing lineups beware. Lankie ended up going 5 innings pitched while striking out seven, walking zero, and didn’t give up a hit to a very solid offensive lineup. He earned MV-Pitcher awards for the weekend for his performance on the hill.
