There’s a ton to like about Luis D Torres (2022, Santa Isabel, P.R.) thanks to his combination of athleticism, smooth glove work, and contact skills from the right side. The uncommitted shortstop was crushing the ball over the weekend to the tune of a .700 batting average over the course of four games. Torres is a lean and projectable 5-foot-10, 165 pounds with good speed and burst out of the box. He swiped a couple bags and showed off the obvious hit tool with a mostly level swing plane and quick hands. Torres opened up for a double off the left field wall on Friday night, giving a glimpse to flash the power and show what eventual juice he might have with added projection. Torres does a very nice job at utilizing a big leg kick that he gets down on time consistently and the leg kick allows him to unlock a lot of that strength at impact from the lower half. He’s a solid all around player and the type of athlete that would be a major boost for a program at the next level.
