Ford Thompson (2024, Snellville, Ga.) brought solid stuff to the mound to open day two and although he didn’t finish with the loudest statistical line, there’s some upside there with the chance to miss a whole ton of bats. Opening at 85-87 mph, and peaking at 88, he challenged hitters with the fastball showing premium life to the pitch up in the zone where he proved he could get past barrels. It’s an athletic delivery with some twitch to the profile and a very quick arm that allows him to hide it well in the back and still catch up with his lower half. Off of the fastball, he showed a significant difference in velocity to the breaking ball throwing it in the 63-65 mph range but with excellent shape and solid bite to it. He’ll match the arm stroke with it and does a good job throwing it with intent giving it some deception at the lower velocity.
