Jacob Smith is a 2022 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-3 220 lb. frame from Chesapeake, VA who attends Hickory. Recorded an 8.06-second 60-yard dash time. Large, durable build with present strength throughout his frame. Primary first baseman, flashing clean athletic actions. Moved around the bag well with clean, deliberate footwork. Good glove actions, fielding out in front on his frame, could improve his flexibility to be more agile while fielding. Accurate throws to the bases, up to 80 mph with some present arm strength. Secondary right-handed pitcher, a simple, easy operation that he repeats well. Uses his strong lower half well to create backside drive. Over-the-top arm slot, creating some downhill action on his fastball, working it on both sides of the plate well. Worked in the low-80's, topping out at 82 mph. Flashed good feel for breaking ball and change-up, was able to land all three pitches for strikes during his outing. Left-handed hitter, slightly open stance with a high-hand set. Again, uses his lower half well to generate power and plus-bat speed. Lofted stroke with present quickness to his hands, produced a lot of loud contact to the pull side during his round with barrel whip. Good student.
