Jacob Quiles is a 2023 3B/RHP/IF with a 5-8 150 lb. frame from Newark, NJ who attends Donald Payne Tech. Young, square shoulders frame with a lean build and room to grow and develop moving forward. Primary third baseman, deliberate pace to actions with short steps to the ball, fields the ball out front with two hands and funnels into body, tends to get under the ball at release at times, arm strength will continue to develop across diamond, maintained arm slot on throws. Also pitched, full windup on the mound working to an over-the-top release point. Fastball topped out at 69 mph, front side opens early but able to generate cut to fastball and stay away from barrels, will continue to find a consistent release point, flashed a curveball at 59 mph. Left-handed hitter, begins with a narrow and open stance with a high back elbow at the plate; utilizes a hanging leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Shows comfort working to pull side at point of contact with some line drive to the middle of the field. Linear path through the zone following a barrel tilt at top of swing, can incorporate additional lower half into swing. Very good student.
