2019 Gulf Coast Prospect Showcase
Gavin West is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 6-0 155 lb. frame from Haleyville, AL who attends Haleyville. Ran a 7.42 second sixty yard dash. Primary Shortstop who showed a smaller, somewhat filled out frame with some room to fill out down the road. He did a nice job of getting around the baseball while showing a clean gather before working into an over the top type arm action across the diamond. His glove showed clean as well while he worked with a young tool set. Secondary Righthanded pitcher who utilized a rocker step and drive with the hips. He also showed a tight, compact arm circle before delivering over the top as well from the mound. He finished square to the plate while his fastball showed a nice downhill plane. The fastball was mostly flat as it topped out at 76 MPH. He also showed an 11/5 curveball that showed some depth in the mid-60's. Lefthanded hitter who started from a spread out stance and a slight bat waggle. He kept his weight a bit over the plate as he made some loud contact with a linear swing path. With that linear swing path, he looked to drive the baseball up the middle while he got the bat head out front. Outstanding Student.
