Derek Baliko is a 2024 SS/RHP/2B with a 5-7 150 lb. frame from Berkley, MA who attends Somerset-Berkley Regional. Recorded a 7.44 second sixty-yard dash time. Medium, compact frame with plenty of room to add strength. Primary shortstop with developing defensive skill set; anticipatory footwork into the fielding process with younger actions to field, some lateral range and the ability to throw from multiple arm angles when necessary. Displays slightly uphill movements to throw, while recording arm strength up to 61 mph across the diamond. Secondary right-handed pitcher that worked exclusively from the stretch in this look; Fairly simple delivery with belt high leg lift, slight drop and drive lower half mechanics, and short stride out to foot strike. Fastball worked in the low-60s for the duration of his outing, topping out at 63 mph from a high three-quarters arm slot. Displayed developing command of the strike zone with fastball mostly, while mixing in a slow 12-6 shaped curveball that had gradual downer action to it. Right-handed hitter that hits from a slightly open stance with a high hand set, high back elbow and leg lift trigger. Contact oriented swing with slightly downhill swing plane, inside hand path and consistent bat-to-ball skills. Middle-to-opposite field approach with developing feel for the barrel and occasional line drive impact when on-time. Young, promising prospect with plenty of projection and upside remaining. Will continue to improve with further advancements mechanically and additional strength. Good Student.
