Joey Young is a 2022 RHP/3B with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from Decatur, IL who attends Warrensburg-Latham. He has a good frame with a physical build with present strength and room to add more yet. Ran the sixty yard dash in 7.20 seconds. Primary right-handed pitcher that works exclusively from the stretch. He uses a knee to just above the belt leg kick and lands in line with the plate. He does a nice job of sitting into his back hip and uses drop and drive back leg mechanics. He has a long and offline arm action and fires from a 3/4 slot with nice arm speed and looseness in his shoulder. He worked his fastball around the zone and primarily used an 11-5 curveball with slurvy shape and solid depth as his off speed pitch. He also features a nice knuckleball that showed good tumble in the zone. Secondary third baseman that works hard to get into the proper fielding position. He fields the ball deep and funnels it into his stomach. He throws with a longer arm action and showed nice accuracy across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts in a spread stance with high hands and a high back elbow. He has a longer stride into his swing and showed nice hand speed through the zone. He does a nice job of shifting through his swing and utilizing his lower half. Named to the Midwest Indoor Top Prospect List. Excellent student.
