David Ross is a 2017 RHP/1B with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Vienna, VA who attends Flint Hill HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and and a lean, projectable build with room to fill out throughout frame. Primary righthanded pitcher, small side step moving into delivery, gets tall on back side with slight hip turn at the top of delivery, short stride down the mound and lands online with strike foot. Full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters arm slot at release. Occasionally drifts towards first base but adds cutting life to fastball, topped out at 80 mph with some effort at release. Gets fastball to bottom of the zone and maintains velocity out of the stretch, occasional short running life. Attacks with fastball but has hard downward curveball at 73 mph from same arm slot, can incorporate more frequently into mix. Accurate throws across the diamond from first base with strength, short steps off the bag. Righthanded hitter, high back elbow, employs a knee raise trigger for timing. Gets to front side early at times, recognizes spin out of hand, handles the barrel well and shows strength off the barrel when squared. Good student.
