2024 Spring Midwest Workout Showcase
Sam Schimberg is a 2027 C/RHP/MIF with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids, IA who attends Xavier. A medium frame and build with some strength throughout. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash, Primary catcher who worked out behind the dish during the defensive part of workouts. He had an open feet setup using a side saddle. He had a shorter arm action with a cross-body release. There was some aggression working out of the crouch with a shorter and lower release on his throws. He was accurate in the air, with throws at 70 mph, and he produced a 2.02 pop time. He moved forward through it well and had accuracy around the bag down at second base. Took BP as a right-handed hitter with a wider base in his even stance. He keeps his hands high and has a higher back elbow, using a minimal leg lift trigger to get on time for pitches. He loads real deep and then turns hard through it with a feel to work pull-side. He was able to work on the barrel, looking to extend through it and turn it over well. He had a quieter lower half with in-sync swings and was able to impact the ball in the air well. He showed bat speed and strength off it. Excellent student.
