Wilfrido Valenzuela is a 2017 LHP with a 5-11 166 lb. frame from Paterson, NJ who attends Eastside. Medium, athletic frame with a lean, projectable build and room to add additional strength to present build. Lefthanded pitcher, works with some drop and drive to lower half but incorporates it very well towards the plate while remaining on line and very balance. Does a nice job of working on top of the ball with a high three-quarters arm slot, ball jumps out of hand and topped out at 84 mph with fastball, mostly true in life. Creates plane to fastball and can locate to either side of the plate. Very strong feel for changeup, mimics arm action with lots of deception and fading life at 73 mph. Curveball features 12-6 shape with hard spin and late depth at 70 mph. Nice feel for three pitches and has the ability to mix with intent. Named to Sunshine Northeast Top Prospect List. Good student.
