17u BCS Scout Notes: Day 1

Chone James (2024, Myrtle Beach, S.C.) had himself a good day at the dish on Saturday. The athletic frame and medium build found the barrel and was able to notch 2 hits in the run-rule victory, including a double to left field. James works from a wider stance with the hands set high and the back elbow up. He loads up on his backside before transferring his weight through contact with a leg lift trigger into good rotation through the swing. He has some bat speed and is able to work on an inside path to get the barrel on the ball accurately and drive it well. The University of Virginia commit handled the bat well and showed off some solid traits on top of picking up the pair of hits on Day 1. It’s a clean operation in the batters’ box and it showed on Saturday.
