Coach Savage and his staff continue to lock in top-flight talent from the West Coast, as this year’s class is no different. The Bruins reload rather than rebuild each year, as recruiting coordinator Bryant Ward has done a good job of securing an eclectic mix of star-studded position players and arms that should have them vying for annual trips to Omaha.

A trio of infielders headline the class, as Perfect Game All-Americans Roch Cholowsky, Roman Martin and Brandon Winokur all bring a bevy of exciting tools on both sides of the baseball. Each of the three bring different aspects that are certainly intriguing, as Cholowsky and Martin bring smooth, fluid actions on the dirt, while showcasing advanced bat-to-ball skills with budding power potential. Winokur has been red hot in 2022 and brings immense in-game usable power. He may eventually end up a corner guy, but the bat is certainly the calling card. Boston Baro has been a fast riser as of late, as the smoothness in the dirt has always been there, but it’s the bat that has taken the next step.

Dean West and Owen Egan bring tons of athleticism to the outfield, as both of them offer an enticing set of skills to impact the lineup in a variety of ways. Look for both of them to compete for at-bats and innings upon arriving on campus. Cameron Kim is another top-200 player that offers intriguing physical upside that can play in the middle of the diamond.

The pitching corps includes Perfect Game All-Americans Cal Randall and Justin Lee, as both have been into the mid-90s and offer exciting three-pitch repertoires that should compete for immediate innings. Landon Stump, Cole Miller and Luke Rodriguez round out the arms, as they will provide their own tantalizing projection and upside. Look for this crop of arms to become stalwarts on the staff that can be deployed in a variety of ways.

The star power within this recruiting class speaks volumes to the tradition that Coach Savage has built at UCLA, while maintaining a stronghold on the top players on the West Coast. If the majority of this class ends up on campus, it could become a monumental group of players that make multiple runs to Omaha.
