Victus Elite Rides Chemistry to 3-0 Start

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Despite an undefeated run to the two-seed at the City of Palms Championship, Victus Elite 17u knows anything can happen during a single-elimination tournament.

“For us, I feel like there’s no pressure, but for one- or two-seeds there should always be a target on your back,” two-way player Nicolas Torres said postgame. “You never know, a team could be a four-seed and then boom, just beat you guys. I feel we always have to show up and play our best.”



The final of their three victories up to this point was a dominant 12-0 win over Next Level Ocala 17u on Friday morning.

Torres received the call on the mound for Victus, pitching all four innings, while allowing four hits and striking out two over his 52 pitches.

He wasn't done there though, contributing in the batter's box as well, reaching base in all three of his at-bats. In the top of the second, Torres led off and wasted no time, doubling off the first pitch he saw out and scoring two batters later.

“It’s awesome because you can just utilize him in any way, and it helps the team out,” head coach for Victus, Alex Carcioppolo, said postgame. “When a pitcher can go out there and get outs and work ahead in the count, and then come up to the plate and hit a double, it just pumps the team up. It just keeps everybody’s spirits high and makes for a better atmosphere.”

Torres, of course, was not the only one contributing in the hits and RBI department, with Christian Perez and Liam Collins leading the way for their club in that department.

Collins, the team's left fielder, finished the day leading his team with three RBI, to go along with two hits as well. He drove in Perez during the first inning off a single, and one-upped himself his next at-bat after bringing home Jonah Miley and Tayler Hawkins.

Perez, the cleanup man, matched Collins in the hit total, while driving in two runs of his own. His RBIs came during his first two at-bats, driving home Sebastian Velasquez and Aj Silvin in back-to-back innings.

With chemistry and complete faith in each other, the team believes those two ingredients are why they will be hoisting a championship trophy come Sunday.

“With our guys, I’m a firm believer that chemistry is everything and even when we’re playing teams full of Division-I prospects, we compete to their level because our chemistry is so good and we just believe in each other the whole time,” Carcioppolo said postgame.
