While a tie game may not be the ideal ending to any game, there is still plenty to learn from the rarest outcome in sports.

“It was a quality and outstanding game, and we got to give a lot of credit to the other team,” Mike Sandoval, head coach of B.I.D National, said.

A 1-1 tie was the final result of Thursday’s matchup between B.I.D National and Burn Scout Team 2026 at the City of Palms Classic.

Left-handed hurler Jobe Fish got the start on the mound for Burn and was effective over his four innings, punching out seven and allowing just two hits.

The Venice, Fla. native's fastball topped out at 83 mph and stayed consistently in that range, along with his curveball that struck out most of those seven batters.

B.I.D’s run came in the top of the fourth, as Santiago Baptista led off the inning with a seven-pitch walk, working his way all the way back from an 0-2 count to get himself a free pass to first base. After advancing to third on an errant throw, Baptista put himself in a great scoring position with no outs.

Another long at-bat, this time from Santiago Rincon, resulted in another hit and drove in Baptista for the first run of the game.

The tying run on the Burn Scout Team side came in the bottom of the fifth. Spencer Adams started the half inning with a leadoff single, and was followed up immediately with an Anthony Kanellos single that put Adams in scoring position with nobody out.

After a strikeout to put one out on the scoreboard, Johnny Havlicek stepped to bat looking to get a job done, and executed a sacrifice bunt to perfection to drive in Adams from third and advance Kanellos to third. Another strikeout from B.I.D.'s Rodney Chung ended the inning and kept the game tied at 1-1.

Kane Judson relieved Fish in the top of the fifth inning, and after being given a run by his lineup in the bottom of that fifth inning, gave his team three scoreless innings to keep things tied over the final frames. The right-hander struck out two and allowed two hits over his three innings on the mound.

B.I.D.'s Baptista was not only clutch on the bases but on the mound as well, closing it out in the seventh for B.I.D, while striking out two of the three he faced.

Jonathan Paniagua was the man to start the game on the mound for B.I.D., giving his squad first three shutout innings for the game, while allowing two hits and striking out four, including back-to-to-back strikeouts in the first.

The two teams both wrapped up Thursday’s opening day at 1-0-1. Directly following their tie, B.I.D National defeated JCS Sluggers, 8-3, and earlier in the day Burn Scout Team 2026 had beaten Turn 2 Baseball White handedly, 18-6.
