2021 MLB Draft: Top 250 College Prospects

It was a productive fall on the MLB Draft circuit as far as scouts being able to get looks at guys in most places throughout the country, and as such the draft board looks quite a bit different than our last update back in August, but such is the reality of building draft boards.

We have a pretty solid idea of the top tier, but the line of delineation between that tier and the one below it is pretty blurred, depending on who one talks to. Vanderbilt’s Kumar Rocker is still the presumed favorite for the first overall pick, but several players behind him have a chance at it as that upper tier starts to take shape. We’re sticking with LSU’s Jaden Hill at the No. 2 spot, though he may have the most to prove of anyone this spring given his lack of innings at the collegiate level thus far. Florida outfielder Jud Fabian is certainly in the mix up there and has a good shot at being the first college bat taken.

Jordan Lawlar and Brady House are back-to-back to round out the top five as the first two prep players on the board, both extremely high-level shortstops, with House really putting together an excellent fall after a so-so summer and reestablishing his stock. Marcelo Mayer is also in that mix, as this looks to be an extremely strong prep shortstop class, with Lawlar (4), House (5), Mayer (10), Khalil Watson (12), and Alex Mooney (23) all in the first round range on this board.

Speaking of prep shortstops, Colson Montgomery made a strong charge this fall and is extremely well-thought of given his athleticism and lefthanded bat—he could be a sixth potential first round prep shortstop. Other big risers this fall include Auburn’s Richard Fitts, who rose all the way up to No. 13 overall, as well as fellow righthanders Ryan Cusick (Wake Forest), Mason Pelio (Boston College), Sam Bachman (Miami of Ohio), Eric Cerantola (Mississippi State), McCade Brown (Indiana), and Mason Black (Lehigh) all being big risers from the summer to now.

It looks like a strong JUCO class as well, with a handful of arms earning potential top-five round designations, including Long Beach College’s Ricky Tiedemann, Eastern Oklahoma State’s Christian McGowan and Andrew Walling, Florence-Darlington’s Hunter Parks, Crowder’s Jacob Misiorowski, and Blinn’s Jace Hutchins all getting a good bit of draft hype, amongst others.

With some uncertainty still surrounding significant portions of the country as far as if baseball will be played this spring, the looks scouts were able to get this summer and fall will be huge as they build their boards. Our next planned 2021 Draft Board update will likely be sometime in late March/early April, as we move towards mid-July.
